(40,049 posts)In my world we aim for a century and it's always something gone wrong if we don't get past ninety.
I can tell you what went wrong with all my immediate ancestors who didn't make it past ninety and won't be surprised if I land among them. The odds are good I'll know near exactly what went wrong.

(27,328 posts)The number of people who live well into their 80s and even 90s has become much larger in recent decades.
Of course, thats for people in reasonably good health unlike a certain 79-year-old we all know.

(13,999 posts)I work full time as prep cook and a lunch lady in a busy cafeteria after retiring from 50 years of nursing. I walk two miles a day. I go out with friends three to five nights a week for dinner or breakfast or cocktails. I fly around the country all by myself visiting family. I just returned from Hollywood California where we walked for blocks enjoying reading the stars sidewalk signs and then had lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel (Hotel California). A few months ago I was in Costa Rica zip lining in the rain forest.
So what have you done lately?
Teacher of the Year
(211 posts)The next year was zip lining in the Amazon.
She tried to hide the pictures from me but I found them. She was also the person in Thailand who volunteered to lay on the ground with an elephant holding his foot over her head. That picture almost gave me a heart attack.
Every trip she went on I half-expected her not to return and she didn't tell me about ANY of these things. When I would find the pictures later on (YOU BUNGIE JUMPED OFF THAT RUSTY OLD BRIDGE??!!!!!) she would always say, "I didn't say anything because I know you would worry."
God only knows what else she did I never found out about.

(40,049 posts)She'd say "God's name is random chance" and that random chance is what took her out of this universe.
And she was a total bitch about it too, to her very last breath, bestowing upon me the title "son of a bitch."
I might complain to the god she conversed with about that, but my mom's mother was even worse. My great grandma, my grandmother's mother who died when I was sixteen was an actual Holy Terror.

(6,157 posts)I will be 79 next year as I prepare for my SECOND national (raw) powerlifting competition, next year in Chicago. I flew to Atlanta by myself for this year's competition - but I only got Silver in my age/weight division. Some 72 year old "kid" beat me!

(114,014 posts)People age at different rates. I've seen people die of old age in their late 50s or still be going strong at100.
Women who were married off as little girls in their early teens were often dead of yearly childbirth leading to premature old age by the time they were 30.
So you might want to rethink that post. "Extreme old age" doesn't have a set number attached to it.
Having said that, I have to say everything over our three score and ten is gravy. I don't know Keaton's COD but it could have been a sudden one affecting someone who was still active and enjoying her life or it could have been a slow one
I thought her best work was her portrayal of Louise Bryant in "Reds."
RIP and thanks.

(36,729 posts)I am happier than I've ever been before, although to be honest, I've been pretty damned happy since become my wife's lover 41 years ago. I was, therefore, pretty happy in my 30's and 40's as well.
The orange pedophile in the White House wouldn't know what happiness is, I think. He's an old senile crank nowhere near to Ms. Keaton in her old age.
His age is showing, but unlike mine, not in a good way.

I no longer fear death, under this regime an early one seems inevitable, and they wanna make whats left miserable as it could possibly be.
Think I will just Binge watch a lot of her craft and find a happy minute or two.
Thank you Diane for the gift you left us.

(741 posts)What a scene. Both Pacino and Keaton were so good. The way she reveals it
and his reaction. Its crazy to think how relevant it still is. She was very talented.
Two of the greatest movies of all time.
The third wasnt a terrible movie per se, but it didnt really match up in any way, so the less said the better. Just felt like a money grab.

(75,999 posts)back in the Goodbar time I didn't know who she was and was paying more attention to the whole thing. And, unlike the entire universe, never cared for the whole Mafia craze and paid little attention to it and anybody in it. And ALLEN, unlike the entire universe, wasn't attracted to his whole shtick, then was grossed that she was in a relationship with him, then later the whole Mia episode put him on my complete zero list.
So I'm left, about her, basically with her chat show appearances. I know who she was - classy, funny, ingratiating.
