(2,457 posts)How low is low? I can't even imagine. Yet. They just want general chaos and real suffering and physical torment so bad. What the h**l is this really all about?

(1,661 posts)That is to say, there is no way he would make up something as outrageous as that because it is so easily checked.
The only sensible explanation is that this really did happen IN TRUMP'S FEEBLE BRAIN.
Just like Portland is a war zone and all the other crazy things he has said lately. This guy is really and truly insane.
There have been many cases in the past year where he has recounted stories that are all of the formula "The other day, somebody came up to me and said 'Sir, you are a genius. etc.' " None of these things ever happened in the real world, but I do believe they were very real to him.
I have a family member who has advanced age-related dementia -- pretty much at the same level as Trump's. A few weeks ago, he started talking about a high school sweetheart he had seen recently and he was thinking about proposing marriage to her. He is in a memory care facility, so it is usually best just to go along with these false memories rather that raise the anxiety level by arguing about it. But in this case, he persisted with this story for 2 weeks. I tried to reason with him. Eventually I showed him the lady's obituary from 10 years ago. He insisted he had seen her only 2 weeks ago, but gradually came to understand that was not true. I hated to disappoint him, but this pending marriage had become an obsession and he was no longer participating in the activities. SInce then, he has moved on and is back to a more normal pattern.
These manufactured memories can be very real when the brain is as far gone as Trump's is. Shame on the media for not challenging these things. Will any of them actually contact María Corina Machado and then report on Trump's delusions?

This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.
We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy.
I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!

(1,661 posts)Everything with Trump is transactional. This statement was undoubtedly dictated to her as what she must say if she expects any support from the US.
But if this is enough to get Trump to shut up about the Peace Prize for a while, so be it.

(1,837 posts)I also would believe someone (like Miller) made that call, and they may or may not have told Trump that they did so.
All I meant was it's not quite as delusional/dementia-based as it may first appear

She's right wing. People got way too caught up in her not being Trump to look at her politics in the effort to dunk on Trump.

(4,334 posts)Machado, Venezuela's opposition leader, was awarded the 2025 prize having long campaigned against the country's President Nicolás Maduro Moros, whose 12-year rule is viewed by many as illegitimate.
She told BBC Mundo that during a congratulatory phone call with Trump she told him "how grateful the Venezuelan people are for what he's doing, not only in the Americas, but around the world for peace, for freedom, for democracy.".

(1,661 posts)the easiest way to get something out of Trump is to kiss his ass spectacularly.
I would question the judgment of the Nobel committee though. Alfred Nobel's will says the overall purpose was to recognize those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind.
The Peace Prize specifically was to be awarded to persons who had been working for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.
It is hard to see where the lady did any of these things, but of course, Nobel can decide whatever they want to.
