General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am sorry to bother, but as a card-carrying Luddite, I need to know (since it just popped up yesterday)
how to get rid of "Google AI mode" which apparently (to me) has no way to delete it.
AI is...... gettinng scary. Google controls 90% is what I heard yesterday on MSNBC or C-Span? I can't keep up with the firehose of fresh hell every day.
I know some DU'er knows the answer to my silly ass question and I appreciate any info/ reccs you have
Thanks.

(4,307 posts)I can read the first paragraph or so without clicking on anything. I keep it just to see how frequently it displays obviously false information.

(74,787 posts)...I've compared the AI overview to Wikipedia and found it to be a direct lift.
Many, many times AI appears to merely be very good at looking things up very quickly.
It doesn't "know" the stuff, it's just fast at finding it.

(40,065 posts)Probably because I'm an actual internet Luddite.
I have an ancient 4GLTE flip phone. On my computers I surf the internet like it's 1998. There's no Android, Apple, or Microsoft in my personal universe. It's all Linux.
Anything on the internet that annoys me, which would include google AI assistance if I ever stumbled upon it, I blacklist.
I can't say I'm enthusiastic about Duckduckgo except that it can still be tamed. When that's no longer the case I'll move on.

(40,065 posts)Sadly recent versions of google chrome broke that so I've retreated to firefox.
I don't have to worry about "smart phone" stuff because I haven't got one.
If I'm really, really, really annoyed I'll pull a hammer out of my Linux toolbox and blacklist entire domains from my internet.
