Trump has just arrived in Japan

Japanese TV is showing his plane at Haneda Airport. His visit is really inconveniencing people who live and work in Tokyo, as they've got 18,000 cops on special assignment for this who are blocking off streets in the capital...

They put such a premium on good manners.

Trump is the most boorishly ill-mannered lout who ever lived. I'm sure to the Japanese, he's a walking Superfund site.

The PM is talking like a FOX host. I wonder how much of that is tatemae, that is, saying what you think the other person wants to hear, and how much is honne, that is saying what you really feel.

At least 3 documents--

One about tariffs
One about cooperation with critical minerals
One about Japanese investment in the US-- 80 trillion yen, or a bit more than $500 billion

Repeating all that crap about him stopping wars and taking an unprecedented peace initiative in Gaza and telling him how wonderful his diplomatic skills are. Surely she knows it's a lot of hokum. But I think she realizes she has to stay on his "good" side, because Japan has 3 adversarial neighbors to its immediate west, and Japan needs strategic partnerships for critical minerals and other things. Also, Japan seems have avoided the problems that some Europeans have faced when trying to enter the US, and I would assume she doesn't want to rock that boat.

She even went on a helicopter tour with Trump on Marine One. They went to one of the US bases and she and Trump spoke to a bunch of soldiers. About half the soldiers clapped when Trump spoke, but nearly everyone clapped when Ms. Takaichi spoke. She was all gung-ho about the US-Japan alliance and talked about a new "Golden Age" with the US.
