Navy Secretary John Phelan has announced a review into whether sailors and Marines social media posts have been misaligned with official guidance.
The Department of the Navy is looking into whether sailors and Marines social media posts have violated the departments social media guidance, according to a recent message from Navy Secretary John Phelan.
At the direction of the Secretary of the Navy, the DON [Department of the Navy] is actively reviewing reports related to Service Members social media activity that is misaligned with the DONs current social media guidance, according to the Oct. 24 All Navy message. The guidance remains in full effect, and we are committed to upholding the highest standards of conduct. Service members are expected to uphold Navy and Marine Corps core values on duty, off duty, and online.
The message does not specify what exactly prompted the review, or how sailors and Marines social media posts may have been misaligned with official guidance.
Navy officials did not provide a statement for this story due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

I don't think the military are too pleased with Pete Hegseth, who never served his country militarized and like shithole, who is a complete sociopath.

(12,015 posts)but now it seems even private criticisms of policy or 'Dear Leader' will get sailors trouble. Wonder if this extends to bas housing or shore facilities?

DAMMIT! Why can't we have a simple rule, that to be the Secretary of a branch of the military, the candidate should have SERVED in the military!!

(159 posts)Not surprisingly there is a German word for what is happening.
Merriam-Webster says:
Gleichschaltung - noun
Gleich·schal·tung ˈglīḵˌshäl(ˌ
tu̇ŋ, -təŋ
: the act, process, or policy of achieving rigid and total coordination and uniformity (as in politics, culture, communication) by forcibly repressing or eliminating independence and freedom of thought, action, or expression : forced reduction to a common level : forced standardization or assimilation

An entire squad of Marines managed to get past an AI powered camera, "undetected". Two somersaulted for 300m, another pair pretended to be a cardboard box, and one guy pretended to be a bush. The AI could not detect a single one of them.
You can tell Phelan never served.
