Just as many with advanced dementia who were not infrequently nasty human beings, but able to contain it in earlier life, manifest it frequently--especially as they "sundown"... I believe that phenomenon allows TSF to put this kind of vitriol into his posts in a surprisingly coherent way. Do i think he may have discussed Rob Reiner's death with Miller or whoever told him and was thus reminded of Reiner's reactions to him and thus stimulated his longstanding animosity and resentment? Yes. But that having occurred, I think TSF is STILL capable of a hate-filled rant such as this.

But, I will turn the page and spend today thinking of all the ways in which Rob (and i am sure his wife) were truly wonderful and talented human beings who CARED about OTHERS. I am really devastated by this loss and if it is true how he and his wife were killed and by whom, well that just adds to the immense pain. to Rob and his wife, Michelle's countless friends, family, admirers. You made a difference and I will forever be grateful. I like to think there is some afterlife or realm that means Rob might rejoin his wonderful father, Carl, and Norman Lear--who surely are turning that realm into one infinite funny and happy landing spot.

Mon Dec 15, 2025, 11:37 AM

Not that I'm giving any credence to what Trump said, I did want to point out how illogical & hypocritical such idiotic statements are.

He blames Rob Reiner for his own death because he made People angry with his hatred of Trump. Apparently Reiner deserved to die because he hated Trump. So by that logic, Charie Kirk was responsible for his own death, because Charlie Kirk was clearly hateful of large groups of people adn according to Trump's logic, because that hate made someone angry at Kirk, then Kirk deserved to be murdered and brought it on himself.

We don't know the whole story on Reiner, but there is NO reason to think it was because he spoke against Trump.

Question: Is Trump accepting blame because the killer acted due to hatred of what he calls TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

This is utterly deranged, and totally unexceptionable. And that dichotomy is the essence of where we are now.

Fifty years from now, it will be difficult to convey to young people, in whatever form this country or its successor exists at that point, that the president of the United States was a frank sociopath.

Malignant narcissism enhanced by creeping dementia. A few years ago he would have thought this, but would have been able to control himself from saying it out loud.

https://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2025/12/the-new-normal

"MAGA launched a mass movement to get people fired from their jobs for being insufficiently mournful about Charlie Kirk's murder."

My comment: this was worse than I thought possible for him to be. I think that is indeed a sign of dementia. If that attack on Reiner was written by a lickspittle to "represent what Trump feels", then we are at the Mad King stage, with toadies encouraging the sociopathy - which may be even worse.

Does anyone think they are experimenting with different drugs for him? I'm thinking of his meeting with Mamdani, when he managed to be - "normal", more or less. It's standing out more and more, given his state since.

The formula, since the "Birther" days or even before, has been to wake up every morning trying to say or do something even more outrageous than the day before.

This is no longer working for him. Everywhere we look, people are racing to distance themselves from him. Trump signs and bumper stickers have all but disappeared. Candidates are running away from his endorsements. Congress people are openly defying him. The EU leaders ridicule him and actively work against his policies. And his poll ratings are the lowest ever recorded.

This latest statement about Reiner's tragic murder will not sit well with anybody, not even his strongest supporters. Ultimately, we are judged by the company we keep, and millions of former supporters have decided they have had enough.

Shapes of Things
Song by The Yardbirds ‧ 1967

Overview
Lyrics
Other recordings
Shapes of things before my eyes
Just teach me to despise
Will time make men more wise?
Here within my lonely frame
My eyes just hurt my brain
But will it seem the same?
Come tomorrow, will I be older?
Come tomorrow, may be a soldier
Come tomorrow, may I be bolder than today?
Now, the trees are almost green
But will they still be seen
When time and tide have been?
Fall into your passing hands
Please don't destroy these lands
Don't make them desert sands
Come tomorrow, will I be older?
Come tomorrow, may be a soldier
Come tomorrow, may I be bolder than today?
Soon I hope that I will find
Thoughts deep within my mind
That won't disgrace my kind

Three things:
1) Trump jumped to the conclusion that one of his followers did this in response to Reiner's political views
2) Like most Republicans, knee-jerk Blame-The-Victim
3) It's always about himself.

For the Magas who acted like the slightest negative comment about Charlie Kirk after his death was akin to a 'celebrating his death' and believed offenders should lose their jobs at the very least, it may have come as a surprise that their hero could be so unapologetically and viciously hypocritical.

114. MaddowBlog-On the Reiners' death, Trump should have quit while he was behind

Facing criticism from the left, right and center, the president had a chance to make things better. He did not.

When Paul Pelosi was nearly murdered, and Trump responded with conspiracy theories and jokes, it reminded the world that Trump is a man devoid of grace and decency.

Targeting Rob Reiner, he did it again, digging a hole in the bottom of the barrel and falling even further.

But when the president responded to the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, by attacking one of the victims, suggesting the filmmaker brought on his own slaying with his criticisms of Trump, something unusual happened: A variety of GOP voices, including some in Congress, agreed that the president had gone too far in his lack of basic human decency.

In a normal White House, a president would see the pushback from his own ostensible allies and realize he’d made a mistake (although in a normal White House, the comment never would have happened in the first place). In this White House, Trump acted as if he’d never heard the old expression about quitting while behind.

Q: A number of Republicans have denounced your statement on Rob Reiner. Do you stand by it?

TRUMP: Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned.

At an unrelated event in the Oval Office, a reporter reminded the president that “a number of Republicans” had denounced his statement related to Reiner and asked, “Do you stand by that post?”

The smart move would have been for Trump to dodge the question and change the subject. He did not, however, make the smart move.

“I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned,” the president said, referring to himself in third person. “He said he liked, he knew it was false — in fact, it’s the exact opposite — that I was a friend of Russia, controlled by Russia. You know, it was the Russia hoax, he was one of the people behind it.

For good measure, the Republican added, “He became like a deranged person, Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.”.....

Instead, let’s focus on the fact that Trump welcomed an avalanche of criticism from the left, right and center by condemning a celebrated artist immediately after learning of his death and, given an opportunity to make things better, made a conscious decision to make things worse.

Trump is who he appears to be: a small and petty man, incapable of empathy or grace, obsessed with his grievances, unaware of what it means to be “presidential” and unable to control his worst instincts.
