My nomination for people of the year:

The grass people that performed at the Bad Bunny half time show at the Superbowl!

The memes just keep getting better and better. They rejoiced being a part of the show and everyone's imagination took flight. And, make no mistake that this was exactly a very Latin American moment, since learning how to laugh and take joy in life when you barely have two sticks to rub together is a cultural phenomenon -- a gift.

& the grass was going to be driven in on pallets or flats or something, but other equipment that was also to be driven in was more important, so people-as-grass was their very creative solution.

I didn't watch the game but found the half time show on YT & watched. I really had no idea what to expect from what I'd read, but it was so energetic & fun! Kudos to the NFL for not giving into pressure!

I found this 1-minute vid of one of the grass people about his experience.

Hey, do you want to be grass?

Having had the joy of coming across the stalks on a mountain hike with my uncle, I recognize it by its glorious purplish reddish ripe cane. Not enough green leaves to hide anyone at that stage, however.

Oh, and it helped that he carried a machete with him

But, yes, there was symbolism in it being sugar cane grasses.
