Has anyone else seen this? What do you think about the veracity of this?
If someone thinks it's a bot or something let me know. Don't want to spread misinformation.
Thanks!

Metaphorical
(2,619 posts)I made the same observation last night. Khameni was the head cleric of a major religious organization, but he was also in his 80, Secession plans were guaranteed at a military organizational level.
The Iranians have also perfected stealth urban warfare. Suicide bombers, Drone attacks. Guerilla insurgents.
Additionally, they are China's biggest oil supplier. Expect Chinese retaliation soon.
And remember, the US struck first. I may be wrong. But I expect the markets will be in freefall pn Monday morning, especially if rumors that the Iranians hit the USS Abraham Lincoln are true.
Trump just started World War III.

I wouldn't put it past him to think just like that. The more destruction he can wield on his way out, the happier he will be.
Thanks, MAGA voters.

(2,089 posts)Putin would have no problem using smaller tactical nukes on Ukraine, if they continue to win.....
He has shown he will utilize Ukraine nuclear reactors, to help Russia win the war.....He is attacking their nuclear reactors that provide energy for Ukraine.......Sending a drone into Chernobyl, after Ukraine had just built a new sarcophagus at great expense to protect everyone, was a prime example......the gaping whole he made with the drone is leaking radiation all over again...when/if that doesn't work, he will have no problem using small tactical nuclear weapons if he continues to lose.......

(12,107 posts)avoid being prosecuted for their crimes. Think of the lengths they will go to.
Also, this doesn't account for those in their very large military that support their hardline leadership.

(12,482 posts)He said there are a number of power centers within the Iranian system, all of which could take over if one is wiped out. The system was deliberately structured in that manner as a defensive precaution, hydra in nature. So even if all the mullahs were eliminated, the power, the governing.decision-making processes would switch to another power center. Khamenei's assassination does not guarantee a better, more reasonable governance. In fact, the word is that Agent Orange was warned by military and intelligence personnel that taking out Khamenei could easily result in a worse outcome--a more hardline, more vengeful and violent replacement.
The really disgusting part of this gambit is calling on the Iranian population to "take over their government" shortly after 10 to 30,000 were slaughtered by Iran's enforcement arm, the Basij. Those intelligence forces are still intact and on the ground ready to mow down any and all resistance.
This was NOT a well-thought out plan. Epic Fury has been renamed Epstein Fury.
Sadly, that fits.
Trump may try to temporarily paper-over or deflect from his depraved past but Epstein will haunt him forever.

(15,295 posts)He's eyeball deep in corruption along with his ultra-orthodox and conservative allies in Government, and "war" with hard-line Islam is the only thing keeping them all from being hauled in front of judges.
I am equally sad for the majority of the Israeli, Iranian, Lebanese, and Palestinian people who just want to live their lives in peace as I am for the US, Russian, Venezuelan, and Ukrainian who also just want to live in peace.
Fuck the rich, narcissistic asshats who drive their own countries into "easy" wars to hide their crimes or hold on to power. Their brats and sycophants aren't going to suffer or grieve.

(12,984 posts)And as far as analysis that indicates the many paths to a worse situation and narrow path to a better situation, Tom Nichols analysis is excellent:
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/02/trumps-iran-regime-change-attack-gamble/686190/?gift=CiksPDoBurvFhUHnw_O61jINW4HWOWUXnT34BmMGFng&utm_source=copy-link&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share
Not to mention that Khamenei may be a more powerful force as a martyr than he was as an aging, infirm, living leader.
A few tidbits from The Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/feb/28/strategic-options-iran-retaliate-us-israel-analysis
....
The early indications are that the US and Israel plan a bombing campaign that could last weeks, while Iran runs down its estimated stock of 2,000 ballistic missiles. Its ability to retaliate at scale may only last a few days, while the US can run in excess of 125 bombing missions a day from each of its aircraft carriers alone.
Iran has few good strategic options now it is under sustained attack. The regimes best prospect may be to try to endure the waves that are likely to come, continue to retaliate while it can, and try to retain control of the streets given that the US and Israel have so far expressed no intention of mounting a ground invasion.
If that is the case, it is not obvious how the war will end. In short, the US and Israel have started this war with vague and unachievable objectives, with no international law base, and little or no support from Gulf states or other US allies, said Lord Ricketts, a former UK national security adviser.
And from WaPo
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/02/28/iran-war-strikes-bombing-trump-nuclear/
...
Its essential to think through the endgame when deciding to kill the leaders of another country. Trump urged civilians to take over the government after the airstrikes finish. It will be yours to take, he said. This will be probably your only chance for generations. If only it was that easy.
Its possible a military junta gains control and intensifies repression. Its also possible that a country of 93 million, more than twice the geographic size of Texas, splinters along ethnic lines. That could mean civil war and instability that leads to the intervention of neighboring armies.
Its hard to see how freedom for the people can be accomplished in any meaningful sense without some U.S. boots on the ground, at least for a time. Yet Trump appears to lack any appetite for doing so. That might give pause to civilians trying to decide whether to risk their lives by rising up.
I can't find the article, but one article I didn't bookmark speculated that the attack could strengthen, not weaken, the IRGC. I did come across a headline from Foreign Policy to that effect, but hit a paywall. If anyone has a subscription to, I'd love to see a gift link to this article:

The U.S. and Israeli militaries are targeting Irans leadersbut that may only strengthen the state.
