cnn is projecting talarico win over crocket (9 min. ago)

State Rep. James Talarico will win the Democratic primary for US Senate in Texas, CNN’s Decision Desk projects, placing a once little-known state legislator at the top of the party’s ticket for the general election in November.

The 36-year-old will defeat US Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a fiery 44-year-old Democrat from the Dallas area, in a contentious primary that became increasingly personal.

Talarico, a Presbyterian seminarian and former teacher from Round Rock, outside of Austin, was not well known across Texas before entering the Senate race in September. But he gained a following after making his faith a prominent focus of his messaging.

Talarico also benefited from national exposure when “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert said he was not allowed to run an interview with the Democratic state legislator due to potential FCC concerns from CBS. The interview consequently got millions of views online.

Now Talarico should join Crockett in opposing Paxton's emergency motion to block the extended voting hours and discard votes cast by anyone who wasn't in line by 7.

EVERY VOTE COUNTS!
COUNT EVERY VOTE!

It doesn't matter that there are not enough uncounted votes to make up the margin. Those votes must be counted. Dallas county may be Crockett's stronghold, but it is REALLY not about her. It is about Protecting the Right of the People to Vote in a Free and Fair Election. It is about the right of the people to have confidence that their vote will be accurately counted.

Yes, race played a factor in my vote. It wasn’t because I didn’t think that Crockett would have made a better senator than Paxton or Cornyn. I like Crockett—A LOT. It’s because I fear that the general electorate in Texas is still racist enough to cause her to lose in November, and I want a win.

IT’s been DECADES since Texas elected a real Democratic senator.

I liked them both but I voted for Talarico. I’m not going to slight him because he’s White. I think he is smart and quite capable and he was in the race first.

Crockett is amazing but many are turned off by her manner of dress, her brashness and her speech. Yes, absolutely racism plays a role.

Like you, I want to win!!! Only by winning can we even begin to start to change the inequity. It’s going to take a step at a time realistically in Texas. Tonight, I believe we have taken that first step.

I sincerely hope that Crockett voters will support Talarico in the general. Had the outcome been different, I would support her in the general without question.
