Mike Huckabee has suggested that Israel is justified in "taking" much of the Middle East on biblical grounds. Netanyahu has stated that he has dreamed of this war on Iran for 40 years. Israel has now launched an all out war on Lebanon and Lindsay Graham is even suggesting that the US should participate to avenge the marine barracks bombing in 1983 in which 241 marines were killed. And now they are talking about ground troops in Iran. It doesn't look like there's going to be an off-ramp to this man made catastrophe.

Trump has been obsessed with war in Iran for decades. He predicted Obama would start a war with Iran to get re-elected. Then he said both Hilary and Kamala would start a war in Iran if elected. Everything is projection. This is how he tells us what he would do.

(25,638 posts)a lot of harm to women.
To put goddess worship in perspective, though, goddess worship does not always mean beneficial or benign social norms.
Ancient societies with fertility goddesses flourished all around the Mediterranean in agricultural societies. The fertility ceremonies included human sacrifices and in some cases, eating the flesh and drinking the blood of the sacrificial victims, as well as ceremonial sprinkling of the blood on fields to ensure crop fertility.
Roman and Greek societies had pantheons of both gods and goddesses but women had limited rights. India has goddesses as well well as gods, but women experience practices like child marriage and honor killings for "inappropriate" behavior. Rape is a serious problem in India.
Having goddess worship does not ensure a safe, egalitarian environment for women.
Christianity insists that, as a monotheistic religion, it does not worship Mary, mother of Jesus, as a goddess. Yet, she is depicted as the Queen of Heaven who miraculously mated with God to produce a divine son, and remained a perpetual virgin capable of intercession with her divine son on behalf of human beings. Her obedience to God, and to the divine purpose of childbirth are held in high esteem as examples of virtuous behavior for women. So having a "nearly divine" woman in Christianity still produced patriarchal societies.
Aa a woman, I am fully in support of equal rights. As an American and a Dem, I fully support the right of religious freedom to follow one's beliefs, or to have none. But, as someone who minored in anthropology, I also know that goddess worship is not always beneficial to women and society.

It should also be noted that the Mossad knew about the '83 attack on the Marines in advance, but said nothing, other than it wasn't their job to baby-sit the Americans.

(52,103 posts)There are several reasons why that word is appropriate. First, it was a girl's school. And very young girls. The school was even described as a Kindergarten school. To emphasize that fact, virgens suggests innocence in its purest form.
Also the word should hit between the eyes of even white conservative men, since they can relate to the loss since the feeling of paternal protection is the strongest with their daughters.
And do you think I'm slighting boys? Well, I don't think the impact would be felt as strong with the white conservatives who will quickly rationalize the loss if it was young boys, since they grow up to be soldiers. That's how they would see it.

Raygun was responsible for ordering that the Marines carry unloaded weapons without access to ammunition, so when the truck bomber was bearing down on the building housing the guards on watch had no weapons to stop the truck.
And the Grenada wag the dog invasion was kicked off 3 days later.

Project 2025 claimed the Iran nuclear deal gave Iran a crucial monetary lifeline. Unfortunately,
the Obama and Biden Administrations have propped up the brutal Islamist theocracy that has hurt the
Iranian people and threatened nuclear war. For example, the Obama Administrations 2015 Joint
Comprehensive Plan of Action, commonly referred to as the Iran nuclear deal, gave the Islamic regime a
crucial monetary lifeline after the Green Movement protests in 2009, which, while ultimately unsuccessful,
did succeed in weakening the regime and showing the world that younger Iranians want freedom.
[Department of State, Project 2025, accessed 6/24/24]
Project 2025 argued it was in the U.S.s and the Iranian peoples best interest to have a democratic
government, and the U.S. could use economic and diplomatic tools to help Iran become free. The
next Administration should neither preserve nor repeat the mistakes of the Obama and Biden
Administrations. The correct future policy for Iran is one that acknowledges that it is in U.S. national
security interests, the Iranian peoples human rights interests, and a broader global interest in peace and
stability for the Iranian people to have the democratic government they demand. This decision to be free
of the countrys abusive leaders must of course be made by the Iranian people, but the United States can
utilize its own and others economic and diplomatic tools to ease the path toward a free Iran and a
renewed relationship with the Iranian people. [Department of State, Project 2025, accessed 6/24/24]
Project 2025 called for broadly blocking Iranian ambitions which includes expanding Trump
administration-imposed sanctions. l First, the U.S. must prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear
technology and delivery capabilities and more broadly block Iranian ambitions. This means, inter alia,
reinstituting and expanding Trump Administration sanctions; providing security assistance for regional
partners; supporting, through public diplomacy and otherwise, freedom-seeking Iranian people in their
revolt against the mullahs; and ensuring Israel has both the military means and the political support and
flexibility to take what it deems to be appropriate measures to defend itself against the Iranian regime and
its regional proxies Hamas, Hezbollah, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. [Department of State, Project
