As early as third grade, Utah students will need to study Bible passages in social studies lessons under new law

https://www.sltrib.com/news/education/2026/03/30/utah-students-will-need-learn/

Utah students will be required to analyze specific Bible passages referenced or “alluded to” in U.S. historical documents as part of the state’s sweeping new social studies curriculum.

That’s under HB312 “School Curriculum and Standards Modifications,” which Gov. Spencer Cox signed into law last week.

Exactly which passages would need to be studied has yet to be determined, but the Utah State Board of Education has until the 2028-29 school year to decide.
...
The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Tiara Auxier, R-Morgan, said it gives the state the power to create its own civics education rooted in Utah values.

“If we want control on what our students are being able to learn and being taught, we want to not have to be getting our textbooks from California,” Auxier said at a March 5 House hearing on the bill.

Lesson on The 10 Commandments:

1. Matching. Match the politicians that have broken one of the 10 Commandments with the correct Commandment. * Note politicians can be used more than once, especially Donald Trump.

2. Essays : Pick one of the following two essays.

A. Compare and contrast the ways Donald Trunp has broke all 10 Commandments with other politicians who have also broken some of the commandments and turned against God.

B. To what extent do politicians of either party fail to live up to the Biblical ideas of Moses since 2016?
