1. I was thinking the same thing today.

Remembering the country we used to be.

I miss it.

It was far from perfect, but there was much to be admired.

2. I miss when I used to believe

that there were more good people out there than not-good people.

Turns out, I was dead wrong.

There are a scary number of people who want to see the world burn, as long as they don't have to pretend to be decent humans anymore.

3. Yes I guess we miss the fantasy.

The fantasy we were a nation of laws.
With a constitution.

Courts and Congress would do their jobs.

And the institutions and corporations all believed in rule of law and the American dream.

Yes we found out that a big chunk of our country consists of psychopaths
and those who love and adore psychopath leaders.

We have had to swallow an ugly reality sandwich.

4. Sadly, the veil is slipping

This country was never perfect, never always right, never morally and ethically superior

But....we are slipping back into the darkest spaces we have fought to bring the light.
