Thats the one item that makes all the others possible.

Oh, we need the Presidency as well.

(34,894 posts)It looks like his plan is a democracy wish list.
But does it actually mention any political policy changes that directly involve congressional procedures?
Fiendish Thingy
(24,275 posts)Not writing it into his platform is probably smart strategically.
Besides, killing the filibuster and expanding the court are a means to reach the desired ends in his platform.

(3,400 posts)*Enact the Freedom to Vote Act
mandating automatic voter registration, early voting, and no-excuse voting by mail;
*banning unreasonable voter purges, deceptive politicking, and partisan gerrymandering; and
*Enact social media rules and requirements that oblige social media platforms to adhere to strict privacy and anti-violence incitement rules.
*Abolish the Electoral College and directly elect presidents by popular vote;
*Establish 20-year term limits and a mandatory retirement age requirement of federal court judges, including Supreme Court justices. . ."
But I thought this post was about platner.
You still didn't answer my question. I posted a policy positions that you responded to with DU member throwing mud . . .
Emile
(43,735 posts)throw it out there?
rogue emissary
(3,400 posts)Of course I'll answer yours. It's not a wedge issue. Majority of Americans support a ban 52% to 62% of respondents. A vast majority of Democrats support the ban 70% to 90% respondents.
I didn't just throw it out it's a position I have advocated for here on DU and supported for thirty years.
It's why I happily voted for Bill Clinton's second term.
Why both of my current Senators support the ban and received my vote.
Third time stating this, OP about Platner's position, I posted a position that Platner advocates.
Emile
(43,735 posts)I'm not a one issue voter, and I don't agree with everything on his platform. Like you, I support an assault weapons ban too. I do like what he says about taking back a government from the wealthy, and giving it back to the people.

(3,400 posts)My search didn't find that Maine voters are against a ban. What I found was a reference to a decade-old poll, so I'm not citing it here.

Emile
(43,735 posts)special interests. The "oligarchs" and billionaires dislike his policies because he campaigns on raising taxes on the superrich, enacting a "billionaire minimum tax", and breaking up corporate monopolies. His economic agenda threatens the financial advantages currently enjoyed by corporate elites.
The powerful are attacking him with everything they can make up.
