Over 40 years of lying in the spotlight, 34 felony counts, multiple indictments, multiple fraud settlements, rape judgments, allegations of pedophilia, and all it took was some sagging poll numbers to get some pushback against his false statements.
So many highly paid journalists go into interviews with republican-types (in particular) as if objectivity is the same as ignorance. They know full well that republicans lie with every breath, yet they act like they're being informed when they're being fed fox news BS. Objectivity is NOT the same as ignorance and normally, journalists prepare for interviews. If you're going to interview a polar bear, you'd probably know enough to bring a winter coat. So why have so many failed to prepare to be fed the same lies over and over again?
Jonathan Swan stands out as someone who stood up to the felon (eventually) in an interview by refuting his data and calling him out for untruths. And this was during Rip van Farts v.1. (video below)
Cut to today, Kristen Welker repeatedly challenged him by stating his claims were baseless. It could be imagined, but it seems like this boldness comes as the figurative shine has come off the useful idiot. Here's some freelancing extrapolation -- mainstream journalists don't necessarily want to speak truth to power. They just want access to power for ratings. The only pouncing comes after they've sensed a weakness which is his diving popularity. If journalists were doing their job, he should have walked out of every interview since 2024.

I have to limit myself. Sometimes posting gets me worked up.
I was going to add that the only reason King Lied-us didn't walk out on Swan was because he thought Swan's Anglo-ish accent was so classy. He probably thinks Swan is from the UK.

(11,129 posts)catches on with more journalists now. I was happy to see someone busting his lies in real time. We need more of that from this media.

(4,877 posts)No doubt. Welker created a moment anyone in the biz would want to have these days. Id love to see more people try to catch some of that lightning, regardless of whether they were motivated by ratings or getting to the truth.
