I was awakened this morning by my Dead Republican cell phone notification service, and this was... perhaps the 2nd best one.
So, I'm in a good mood and will be making disrespectful comments about the former Senator.
While I know this is a Democratic message board, and there is no great love for Lindsay Graham, I want to get in front of this and say my giddiness and joy over the mortal reminder of what is coming for ALL of Trump's toadies and enablers does not necessarily fully represent my moral character.
I'm a little ashamed of how much I'm enjoying this.
Kinda like how when Charlie Kirk got shot I was like, "Oh, I don't like seeing a dude bleed out but he died doing what he loved!"
Kinda like how when Herman Cain died of Covid I was like, "Oh, I dont like seeing a dude die of covid, but he really shouldn't be eating his own pizzas"
Sorry DU.
But Lindsay Graham and Graham Platner are both off the scene. We are Grahamless. We shall not be getting a Grahamee.
Ding dong the witch is dead. Which old witch? The impeachment witch.
Ding dong the ambiguously gay witch is dead.

(54,265 posts)I still believe Trump had some major kompromat on the guy. He was always a bit wishy-washy, but until Trump, he seemed somewhat decent and often reasonable.
"Trump is a race‑baiting, xenophobic bigot who should be told to go to hell."
"Trump is an interloper and a demagogue of the greatest proportion."

(5,094 posts)For Sen. Graham, it was about being in the vicinity of power. It didn't matter how badly he would debase himself, so long as he could stay near people with relevance.
The world is a better place with him gone.

(54,265 posts)I wonder if he was best friends with John McCain because maybe he thought McCain would become president one day.
mr715
(5,094 posts)Perhaps because he thought he would be President, but he still was a hanger-on even after McCain lost.
Graham just clung to people more significant than he and so assumed some parasitized influence. A political leech. Find a video of his hot mic moment with Secretary Kerry. He was only interested in borrowed power.

(54,265 posts)That seems to sum him up quite accurately. Such a sad, little man.

(9,386 posts)When McCain died, he seemed to move over into the Trump camp pretty quickly.

He's have LOVED our current Iran situation.

The fact that I feel a little bit like the thieves going through Scrooge's things in A Christmas Carol brings me a twinge of shame. I'll try to be a better person tomorrow.

(5,115 posts)Republicans don't vote for the policy or the person. They vote for the (R).
It doesn't matter who Republicans plug in to replace Graham in the election. Every single Graham voter will vote for them.

(13,346 posts)The cult leader sees how much joy will be slamming all media when his card is punched as two of the most evil of America are experiencing this last few weeks. And their just as evil family members realize, life after all the hell brought upon the world by that ending will not be kind to them either. And Jr will live the curse of a name just like an AH Jr. And the best part about the unexpected ending, they have no time to repent for their evil. The heat from hell with these scum will make this place even hotter. Wait till the blob fuels the fire.

(5,094 posts)My understanding was everyone kinda knew.
Edit: Everyone kinda knew in the sense that if a martian landed on Earth and like, they didn't know what a lion was or grass... they'd still know.

(301 posts)There's only 1 person alive today IMO that fits that category. For everyone else (like Osama Bin Laden, Rush Limbaugh, Rupert Murdoch, Vladimir Putin) they can be replaced with contemporaries.
Basically, I just ignore these stories. It doesn't make Democrats look good if we're overly giddy about it. JMO.

(5,094 posts)Lindsey Graham represented a particular flavor of cowardice and hypocritical power seeking that directly empowered Trump.
Much like the one person you are implying, I think the world is truly a better place without the one person in Lindsey Graham, despite the fact that he will be replaced with an equivalent Republican in the Senate.
It does force the SC GOP to scramble a little bit, perhaps to offset our scrambling in Maine. A yin and yang...
The Democrat is a longshot, but she's really good.

(10,528 posts)And he left this mortal coil before he could inevitably try to rebrand himself as a better person once the Trump fever in the Republican Party died out.
Due to his unexpected passing, he will now forever be remembered as his deplorable MAGA self. That will be his lasting image in everyone's minds and that is how history will look back on him.
At least he has Strom Thurmond to keep him from claiming the top spot as the worst ever senator from South Carolina.
