(25,239 posts)When most Americans don't have savings to afford more than a month or two of living expenses, how will they (and me) deal with this situation?
I don't know if it's the whole world, but rampant greedy capitalism has definitely destroyed the US for us "un-rich".

We live in rural America
on a gravel road that can be snowed under in the winter
So, we have a fleet of aging vehicles
1992 Subaru loyale 4wd wagon
1994 subaru loyale 4wd wagon
2000 ford 2 wheel drive (parked in the winter) ford ranger
2006 Honda civic (our highway car)
We try to spread our miles out among all of them
mileage ranges from 25 mpg on the ranger to 40 mpg on the civic
All are 5 speed manual transmissions
Because they are old, our taxes are low annually to keep them, as is our insurance, so
we can do a lot of maintenance without having car payments
. I guess the worst of it we have to keep tires and batteries up to date
