CITY ELECTIONS: Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon loses office he's held for decades

Greenville has elected a new mayor for the first time since 2000, with Mayor Dexter McLendon losing his re-election bid to Jae’Ques Brown, who is a member of the city council.

McLendon told Action 8 News that he’s disappointed with the results but respects the voters’ choice, while Mayor-elect Brown says he’s excited for the change and says he is ready to get to work for Greenville.

Brown supporters have taken to the streets to honk their horns, while there were subdued reactions inside Greenville City Hall where McLendon had gathered with supporters, family and friends.

Brown will be the first Black mayor in Greenville history.
