RUNOFF ELECTION - Gulf Shores: Councilman Joe Garris retains Place 1 seat
GULF SHORES The Gulf Shores municipal runoff election results are in, and Councilman Joe Garris Jr. received a majority of the votes for Place 1 on city council.
Garris won with 722 votes (52.97%) against his opponent, Austin Coach Boyd, who earned 641 votes (47.02%).
There was no majority win from the Aug. 26 general election for Gulf Shores' at-large council Place 1, which was a race among Garris, Boyd and Lucas Burger. In August, Garris received 1,761 votes (43.41%), Boyd got 1,913 votes (47.16%), and Burger earned 382 votes (9.41%). These results reflect those posted after a recount, the first municipal recount for the city, was held Sept. 10. All winning candidates were confirmed by the results; changes from the Aug. 26 election results and the recount results ranged from losing three votes to gaining four votes. The recount was filed and paid for by Burger.
In the Aug. 26 election, 4,056 votes were cast for Place 1. in the Sept. 23 runoff, a total of 1,363 were cast.
