Alabama town rocked by political turmoil has a new mayor after hard-fought election
A small town fraught for years with bitter political division has a new mayor.
Tarrant voters tonight elected councilwoman Tracie Threadford as their next mayor, defeating one-term incumbent Mayor Wayman Newton.
Threadford stretched her arms up high in celebration surrounded by supporters at Destined For Greatness Ministries shortly after the numbers came Tuesday.
Threadford becomes the second woman to lead the city of 6,000 people just northeast of Birmingham.
