Related: About this forumUpdate on DU's database issues (Saturday afternoon)
Hi everyone,
After the work that was done yesterday and today, we've seen a marked improvement in database performance. You may have noticed that the site is running much faster today than it was yesterday or on Thursday.
We are hopeful that the worst is behind us (fingers crossed) so we are soon going to attempt to re-open the site to registered non-Star Members. We will observe the situation and if everything looks good, we'll try opening back up for everyone.
Please be aware though that during the next couple of hours we may see performance start to degrade again, while we perform these tests. If that happens we will revert back to Star Members only and then consider our next steps.
This has obviously been a rough couple of days, especially coming just before the election. We appreciate you all hanging in there while we try to get things back to normal.
I'll post another update when we have more news...

At least in controlled tests. Real world applications are often different. Obvs.

(2,266 posts)Running a website isnt easy, especially one as active as DU. For many here, this is a haven from our local political environment. We greatly appreciate everything you guys do to keep the lights on.

(610 posts)I kept checking the site over and over to see if it was back, but it wasn't until this time. I had to watch some msnbc last night to hear some progressive discussions.
Cheers to Earl G and the team for being so proactive.

And I couldn't re-upload it because I didn't have a copy of it on my hard drive. Thankfully (if not ironically), I was able to download the image from the profile page, re-name it, and save it to my hard drive. Then all I had to do was re-re-upload it, and now everything's working perfectly -- welcome back home, Sifl!
