Russia says it does not want a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine

Source: Financial Times

Russia does not want a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine and is pushing for a long-term peace settlement that will take into account its interests and concerns, a senior aide to Vladimir Putin has said.

Yuri Ushakov, the Russian president’s foreign policy adviser, told state television on Thursday that the 30-day ceasefire proposed after talks between the US and Ukraine this week was “nothing other than a temporary breather for Ukrainian troops”.

“Nobody needs steps that imitate peaceful actions in this situation,” Ushakov said, adding that Moscow “hopes [the US] knows our position and wants to believe that they will take it into account as we work together going forward”.

Russia’s rejection of the US proposal aligned with Putin’s hardline stance ahead of high-level talks later on Thursday in Moscow, where Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, has landed.

Putin has demanded that Ukraine recognise Russia’s annexation of four partially occupied south-eastern regions and the Crimean peninsula, withdraw its troops from those areas and pledge to never join Nato as preconditions for the ceasefire.

Russia is also pushing for caps on Ukraine’s military, protections for Russian speakers in the country and fresh elections to replace President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

It has demanded an effective rollback of Nato’s eastward expansion since the cold war, which Putin has claimed forced him to order his invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Neither Ukraine nor Europe nor should the US, agree to these terms. They are neither serious or realistic.
It's losing this war and wants to steal huge portions of Ukraine with little guarantee that we won't be right back at war in another couple of years.
Screw Russia. NATO needs to create an immediate no fly zone over Ukraine.

You don't stop a bully but giving him more of a reason to be a bully. You bunch that motherfucker in the mouth.

Putin no more wants peace that he wants to step down as dictator. This will be like the cease fire in Palestine...there will always be a last minute dissent & it won't happen. Putin doesn't want peace...he never has. Want he wants is complete domination over the world, and Trump is too stupid to realize if we give him Europe, he'll come after us next.

Putin wants Ukraine to surrender
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-lays-out-demands-talks-with-us-ukraine-sources-say-2025-03-13/

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON March 12 (Reuters) - Russia has presented the U.S. with a list of demands for a deal to end its war against Ukraine and reset relations with Washington, according to two people familiar with the matter.

It is not clear what exactly Moscow included on its list or whether it is willing to engage in peace talks with Kyiv prior to their acceptance. Russian and American officials discussed the terms during in-person and virtual conversations over the last three weeks, the people said.

They described the Kremlin's terms as broad and similar to demands it previously has presented to Ukraine, the U.S. and NATO.
Those earlier terms included no NATO membership for Kyiv, an agreement not to deploy foreign troops in Ukraine and international recognition of President Vladimir Putin's claim that Crimea and four provinces belong to Russia.

Russia, in recent years, also has demanded the U.S. and NATO address what it has called the "root causes" of the war, including NATO's eastward expansion.

Should the majority of Ukrainians in the free part of the country want it to end that's another story. I think it's their sovereign choice. I'd go with their wishes.

Come talk to the Ukrainian-Americans in Little Ukraine/ The East Village in NYC (biggest community in the USA), and see what they say, and nineties hear from their relatives back there.

Sure, I'd like to end but on fair terms.
And screw Goon Putin for demanding President Zelenskyy be replaced.

Thu Mar 13, 2025, 04:16 PM
Mar 13

Russia first invaded Ukraine during Catherine the Great's reign.
The borders have changed in both directions over the centuries.

The worst happened in the 1930s when Russia began their collective farming, which resulted in a widespread man made famine in which millions died; Ukraine was the hardest hit because the Russians withheld the farmers's portion of the collective harvest because they wanted to suppress Ukraine's independence and resistance. . This period is known as the Holodomor. https://holodomormuseum.org.ua/en/the-history-of-the-holodomor/
I have read a couple of books about the Holodomor and it was horrible. Ukraine has not forgotten.

As part of the agreement where Ukraine agreed to surrender their nuclear weapons. Those borders held until Russia broke that agreement in 2014 and they then tried to expand their occupation more in 2022. Part of those borders gave land to Ukraine which has Russian-speaking ethnic Ukrainians.

I have been saying that for several months now. Trump is wasting time with this effort that parallels Vietnam where talks lingered for 2 years until conditions got ripe for a North Vietnam takeover. What Ukraine needs is better weapons, including better air defenses and longer range weapons capable of inflicting major damage on Moscow. Either Ukraine wins or Ukraine loses. It is that binary.

Russia has yet to release their official comments but what little they have release looks to be a rehash of demands. Below is a link (from Fox News) and it offers little to cause me to change my mind. https://onenews.com/article/C9J6AC9R68RP2DV6C4WKGS32CMS3CRHKCHHK2CHS70SPACSKC9GKMCHG68TJTC1K5MRK681G74X34DST64TKMKJ368?category=News

A later source, with more details. The WSJ article points out that Putin rejected the cease fire offer, basically saying the conditions were not ripe for a cease-fire because Russia is taking territory from Ukraine. I am sure Trump cutting off arms shipments to Ukraine had something to do with this so that silly move simply delayed when a cease-fire could happen. Another sticking point with Russia it the proposal did not address "root causes" for the invasion in the first place. Again, Russia failed to mention what those root causes were. Earlier Putin said it was to denazify Ukraine, even though there was no evidence of nazi activity in Ukraine. What harmful thing will Trump do next?

BREAKING: Sky News calls Putin out for his Ceasefire scam.

He's still requiring that no western troops give Ukraine security guarantees.

He's still requiring the international community to recognize the stolen land he took from Ukraine as Russia's.

He's still requiring that NATO back off.

If you can't see what Putin is doing here, you are blind. He is only going to make a deal if that deal means he can easily do this all over again whenever he wants.

here's what, for what it's worth, I would do. Supply Ukraine with all the necessary equipment needed for a concerted offensive into Crimea. Long range missiles to blow up the Kerch bridge and make it unusable for, well, forever. At the same time blow-up all Russian air defense systems in Crimea and southern Kherson. Have Ukrainian troops start an offensive with pincer movements through southern Kherson into Crimea to cut the Russian land bridge. If possible move east from there with another offensive to liberate Melitopol.

If the Russians won't work on an end to the war they started, Ukraine and it's allies must end it with a one-two punch. It is the only language that the Russian Kremlin understands. They have had this evil attitude for centuries.

The idea was carrot and stick to force the two parties to negotiate.

We've had the stick for Ukraine, the (temporary) withdrawal of intelligence and suspension of arms deliveries - OK, they hardly needed dragging to the conference table anyway, but they saw the charade through - now it's time for the stick for Russia.

In the absence of any further meaningful sanctions that are likely to have any effect on them - and they've already been defiant and disrespected Trump by pooh-poohing their impact - that can only mean escalating arms supplies to Ukraine.

Go to it, Donny-boy. That Nobel Prize can be yours yet.

Eat shit and die.

Here is the deal Russia has to get out of all of Ukraine and that includes Crimea because a
large part of that UKRAINIAN STATE will be the home to the Crimean Tatars. The other 4
Oblasts (states) Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk any Russian speakers who
were there prior to Russia’s 2014 invasion of the Nation of Ukraine can stay as Ukrainian
citizens if they don’t want to do that they can move back to Russia who is down @ least
250,000 men because of Vlad’s war. Russia has to return all the children they kidnapped,
it has to pay for damages, it needs to put a bullet In Putin’s brain, its war criminals including
Senior Leadership needs to be put on trial their actions such as rape, torture, murder, theft,
and destruction of property, and Ukraine gives back the Russian lands they now occupy.

And an independent Ukraine can join NATO too. Any Russian soldiers who stay in Ukraine
can either surrender or die.

Btw Russia gets the Trump Family too.
