Trump calls for imprisoning his opponents in bellicose speech at Justice Department

For more than an hour, he delivered an insult-laden speech that shattered the traditional notion of DOJ independence.

Updated: 03/14/2025 05:11 PM EDT

President Donald Trump on Friday walked into the Department of Justice and labeled his courtroom opponents "scum," judges "corrupt" and the prosecutors who investigated him "deranged."

With the DOJ logo directly behind him, Trump called for his legal tormentors to be sent to prison. "These are people that are bad people, really bad people," the president said in a rambling speech that lasted more than an hour. "The people who did this to us should go to jail." ... In remarks that were by turns dark, exultant and pugnacious, Trump vowed to remake the agency and retaliate against his enemies.

It was, even by Trump's standards, a stunning show of disregard for decades of tradition observed by his predecessors, who worried about politicizing or appearing to exert too much control over the nation's most powerful law enforcement agency. Trump, instead, called himself the "chief law enforcement officer in our country" and accused the DOJ's prior leadership of doing "everything within their power to prevent" him from becoming the president.

Trump charged the DOJ with spying on his campaign, raiding his home, persecuting his "family, staff and supporters," launching "one hoax and disinformation campaign after the other" and breaking the law "on a colossal scale," making clear the glee he has taken in undermining the department's typical independence and wielding it to achieve the White House's objectives.

They made the tsf a really happy camper today. They bowed and kissed the ring like good little subjects.

I know I am technically criticizing democrats, but in my defense they threw us all under the bus first, and I am feeling betrayed, angry, lonely, terrified and lost.

How, when and who may be unknown at this point, but trash enough people badly enough and some of them, somewhere, are going to figure that's their only viable option despite the potential ramifications. A people and a society can only take so much. Ask Luigi about that.

The hate and anger is so palpable. My worry is that so many innocent people will be caught in the "crossfire". Trump is doing nothing to protect us from another 9-11.

and was said to be a great admirer........

Now he is using select techniques of Hitler to achieve a similar position here in the U.S.

If you read much about Hitler, Trump is using Hitler's chronological actions like a play book.......

Obama and Biden came nowhere near this level of crap. Trump is still so pissed that anyone had the audacity to investigate him and charge him with anything, so he labels it "politicizing the DOJ." They didn't do it. He's doing it, and the GOP is still frozen in fear from this Mafioso and his legion of thugs.

The Metropolitan Saturday Matinee radio broadcast was "Fidelio." It's about a guy who has spoken out about a corrupt politician and suddenly disappeared. I don't suppose Beethoven would be considered progressive today, but for his time he was very much so. And very loudly.
