WASHINGTON (AP) Second lady Usha Vance plans a trip to Greenland, the self-governing, mineral-rich territory of American ally Denmark that President Donald Trump has suggested the United States should take control over.
Vance will leave on Thursday and return Saturday, according to her office. Vance and one of her three children will be part of a U.S. delegation set to visit historical sites, learn about Greenlandic heritage, and attend the Avannaata Qimussersu, Greenlands national dogsled race.
The race features around 37 mushers and 444 dogs and offers what Vances office described as a remarkable display of speed, skill, and teamwork. The statement said that Vance and the delegation are excited to witness this monumental race and celebrate Greenlandic culture and unity.
Media outlets in Greenland and Denmark reported that during her trip this week, Vance would be accompanied by Trumps national security adviser Mike Waltz. The White House and the National Security Council did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Why it smacks of lightly veiled extortion to me.

If Trump does decide to use force against our NATO ally, there might be repercussions around the world. I'm thinking sanctions against the US and freezing assets of US companies and US citizens. Dumb

(8 posts)The tech oligarchs want to build a North American Technate that stretches from Greenland to at least Panama. Its why both of those countries have been in the news recently. They plan to make a serious play to conquer all of this territory by any means necessary. They will try to desensitize us with 51st state propaganda for Canada, threats against Greenland and Panama, eventually invade and occupy Mexico, and its all in their plan. They are already starting, and we must stop them before its too late, because as we do this, Putin will make a play for Europe, Xi will play for Taiwan and beyond, and then were in WWIII.

(1,902 posts)... according to the brilliant Danish professor Minik Rosing, the Greenlandic underground does not hide a possible American business adventure.
- Rare earth minerals/metals are connected to three things: production capacity, demand from specific industries, and environmental impact. These three factors come together in a specific area of China due to 40 years of investment and development.
I will not elaborate further but there is a reason most of Chinas rare earth minerals are produced in Zhejiang and Jiangsu. These two areas have the needed capacities to process, absorb and ship the products created from rare earth minerals.
Greenland has nothing comparable to what Zhejiang and Jiangsu has in production capacity or demand from specific industries. Most Greenlandic people I have met are also not very keen on accepting the environmental impact from extracting these minerals.

Egede, who is Greenland's outgoing prime minister, said his caretaker government would not meet with the delegation. He raised particular objection to Waltzs visit. Denmark also voiced opposition to the trip.
"What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us," Egede said an interview with Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq on Sunday. "His mere presence in Greenland will no doubt fuel American belief in Trumps mission − and the pressure will increase."
"Until recently, we could trust the Americans, who were our allies and friends, and with whom we enjoyed working closely," Egede told the local newspaper. "But that time is over."

They should have said "no, we've got jobs to do" (Mr. Vance accused Denmark and Greenland of "not doing their job" ). "She can come in like a normal tourist. Standard baggage allowance, make sure your visa is in order, because we wouldn't want to have to turn you back."
