Trump official admits US workers won't get jobs in new factories spurred by tariff strategy

Source: The Independent

Sunday 06 April 2025 21:39 BST

Donald Trump’s secretary of Commerce seemingly admitted on Sunday that US workers would not see long-lost manufacturing jobs return as a result of the president’s new tariff strategy, which places duties on nearly all US imports.

Howard Lutnick appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday and promised that “trillions” of dollars would flow into the US in the form of new investments in America’s manufacturing sector. Margaret Brennan, the show’s host, questioned whether those factories would be “automated”, as Lutnick had said previously.

Pointing out that the construction of new factories “takes years” and will do nothing to bring down costs of consumer goods for Americans in the short term, Brennan added: “You said that robots are going to fill those jobs. So those aren't union worker jobs.”

“It’s automated factories,” Lutnick conceded, while promising that American workers would build and “operate” the factories brought to US shores in the coming months and years.

UBI for life or you risk a revolution. The choice is theirs.

These fascists think they can have their fucking cake and eat it too. They want people to lose their jobs as an excuse to "save" money by automating and blowing our budget on their AI technocracy, but they also talk about doing crazy shit like extending the fucking work week (which isn't at all viable when AI is already on track to replace so much of the work force) and rolling back child labor laws, all while everything gets more expensive for all eternity, wages never go up, and corporations get to pay people fucking pennies without any government regulation or oversight. It isn't remotely feasible to do all this shit at once. Make up your fucking minds already, you fucking loons.

It's diabolical.

Trump is trying to rectify the trade deficits we currently have. But other countries used their trade surplus to invest in US stocks, real estate , corporate bonds, US treasuries et cetra.

Now that cycle is being broken and other countries will be looking to invest any money they do have after this market carnage somewhere else. That leaves financing using American savings. How’s that going to work when most folks are struggling and the oligarchs are going to loose 20%+ of their working capital (if not their heads)

The stupid is strong in this country.

With every word these “experts”, followers, and so called leaders utter, they are slowly placing targets on themselves. I’m thinking there is going to be a Nuremberg type trial in a few years… and with all these shits so old and fat, and/or spreading hate, disinformation and discontent, perhaps many may not be “working” for too long.
