JUST IN: AP Blocked from Trump's Oval Office Press Gaggle -- Ignoring Recent Court Ruling

Despite a recent injunction reinstating access, an AP spokesperson confirmed their journalists were denied access to an Oval Office press event on Monday.
Our journalists were blocked from the Oval Office today. We expect the White House to restore APs participation in the pool as of today, as provided in the injunction order, as first reported by The Washington Posts Jeremy Barr via social media. President Donald Trump took questions from assembled White House press corps members in an unusually contentious gaggle while sitting next to El Salvador President Nayib Bukele.
The White House has refused universal access to the Associated Press over the news services refusal to call the body of water south of the nation long known as the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, as Trump has insisted via Executive Order. AP has insisted that it is an international concern and that many of its clients are nations that do not abide by Trumps nationalistic fiat.
On Tuesday, a federal judge ordered the White House to restore The Associated Press full access to cover presidential events, on April 8th, citing First Amendment grounds that the government cannot punish the news organization for the content of its speech.

(30,269 posts)Or is everybody just getting used to our legal system being impotent, against the fascist excesses of the trump regime? There's nothing anywhere close to enough public and governmental blowback over these dangerous developments. We need to get busy, in a big damned hurry, before every good aspect of our country has been eliminated.

(4,073 posts)Below are several paragraphs from the AP story on the case. Bolded portions are my emphasis of the article.
"Because of its wide reach, the AP has traditionally always been included in pools for coverage of presidential events in places like the Oval Office and Air Force One. Because of its wide reach, the AP has traditionally always been included in pools for coverage of presidential events in places like the Oval Office and Air Force One. McFadden cautioned that his ruling does not necessarily herald a return to those days."
The Court does not order the government to grant the AP permanent access to the Oval Office, the East Room or any other media event, he wrote. It does not bestow special treatment upon the AP. Indeed, the AP is not necessarily entitled to the first in line every time permanent press pool access it enjoyed under the (White House Correspondents Association). But it cannot be treated worse than its peer wire service either. In other words, sometimes AP will be in the pool, and sometimes not.
Additionally, the article states, "The judge said that his decision does not prohibit a government official from choosing which outlets to give interviews to, or choosing which journalists questions they choose to answer at a news conference."

WHO do you expect to do something?
You should do something. Be the change.
No. No. I may be throwing a tantrum. I may be having a breakdown. But, NO! I vote for, support and fully expect my elected officials and the law enforcement officials they select to do something, too. This is unacceptable. And by this I mean the administrations lawlessness here and with the imposition of tariffs that are actually the responsibility of Congress and for sure over the abduction of citizens and residents who should be retrieved from foreign prisons. For the love of god, what benefits accrue to citizens and taxpayers in the US at this point?
