HYATTSVILLE, Md. (7News) More than a dozen workers with Martz Gold Line began a strike Thursday at 4 a.m., citing what they call unfair labor practices and bad-faith bargaining by the company during ongoing contract negotiations.
The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 689, which represents bus operators, mechanics and service technicians at Martz, announced the strike in a statement early Thursday morning.
ATU Local 689 said Martz has pushed wage proposals that would leave employees further behind compared to others in the transit industry.
The Union does not tolerate companies that try to bully workers at the bargaining table. Throughout the negotiations there has been only one party, the Union, thats been operating in good faith and actually wants to reach a deal, said ATU 689 President Raymond Jackson. Martz Gold Lines labor law violations are unacceptable and now is the time for workers to fight back.
