Biden to attend Pope Francis' funeral

Source: CBS News

Updated on: April 25, 2025 / 9:45 AM EDT

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump are set to fly Friday morning to Rome for the Saturday funeral.

Pope Francis, who had battled health issues for months, died Monday at the age of 88 following a stroke.

He has been lying in state at St. Peter's Basilica since Wednesday, where tens of thousands of mourners have come to pay their final respects.

Among those heads of state attending the funeral will be Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Argentinian President Javier Milei.

Had this in a tab since early this morning but finally getting around to posting and they did update the early morning version. This was a foregone conclusion that he would be there.

so wherever they put them. He's not a current sitting President but is a very-much practicing Catholic.

... The Donald will be permitted to sit? He is a convict. They might have a special section. Also, will Melanie sit with her spouse, or prefer a better seat?

There's serious Church protocol regarding a Papal funeral - even more so than for a head of state. So, current heads of state and invited guests will probably be seated in the third section, behind the Cardinals and other Church hierarchy and probably leaders of other faiths, like the Orthodox Patriarch, Dalai Lama, etc. Although I'll laugh my ass off if the Bidens and Obamas get better seats than the Orange Turd.

I'm hoping that the Swiss Guards stop him from entering the Vatican. I'm not a Catholic anymore, but he profanes the place.

If Trump were a decent human being, and we all know that he is NOT, he would have invited the Bidens to accompany him on Air Force One. Not that they would have wanted to, but it would have been an appropriate gesture.
