Trump and Xi have held their long-awaited call: Chinese state media

Source: Yahoo! Fnance

Updated Thu, June 5, 2025 at 9:41 AM EDT

A call between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping has taken place, according to Chinese state media. The bulletin from China was not immediately confirmed by Trump or his team, with the Chinese offering no immediate details about the call itself other than to say the talks took place and that they happened at Trump’s request.

Either way the apparent call would be a significant step in Trump’s highest stake trade talks and appears to be the first time Trump and Xi have spoken since Trump inauguration.

The long-awaited call also comes at a fraught moment for US-China trade talks, which Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has described as “stalled.”

The path towards an eventual trade deal with China — or at least continued de-escalation after a trade truce in May lowered tariffs by 115 percentage points for 90 days — has been in question especially after a recent Trump social media missive took aim at Xi personally by saying that dealing with the leader is "extremely hard."

The call was at Trump's request and I doubt anything was gained. Didn't he tell us he had conversations with Xi?

Xi has been missing for weeks and there's a power struggle taking shape.

I don't believe either party.

American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to China in exchange for a trade "deal." The Turd may have to give Hawaii to Xi Jinping -- probably with one of his famous "executive orders." "Shit" truly does "happen" in this White House.

I don't even think he has a pair of 2s. The U.S. corporations, in their quest to maximize profits by searching for what amounted to slave labor to reduce costs, essentially gave Xi's predecessor, Hu, almost all of the cards once China became a member of the WTO. That kick-started the frenzy of "out-sourcing" and "off-shoring" to China (and eventually India).

before the WTO during the Turd's first term. The Turd's new tariffs against China in his second term are far more egregious than the ones which were illegally levied during the Turd's first term. China has already filed complaints before the WTO concerning these illegal trade tariffs which the Turd has again illegally levied here in 2025. China will again "win" this case before the WTO because the law is clear on this issue and there is indisputable legal precedent which is on China's side not to mention the previous victory in which China prevailed in the WTO against the Turd on this very issue.

he doesn't feel the need to listen to or abide by any authoritative bodies (and I expect the WTO would be one of those), so it remains to be seen how much damage would happen - although his TACO strategy has managed to hop, skip, and jump around the worst of it so far.

Xi: Kiss my ass, you dumbass orange meathead! What are you calling up and wasting my time for?

Trump: I though we could hack out some kinda deal...I like deals...on maybe dropping the tariffs in exchange for something.

Xi: I don't make any deals with slimy orange fucks like you! Where is Musky-boy?

Trump: Err- He doesn't work here any more.

Xi: Well...I only want the rich asshole to deal with...you are just a loud noise. In the mean time....go fuck yourself and don't call back unless you give me all of Southeast Asia.

"We're sorry, you have reached a number that has been disconnected or is no longer in service" does in no way constitute a trade "negotiation" no matter what Trump claims.
