Sherrod Brown launches Senate comeback bid in Ohio

Democrat Sherrod Brown, the gravelly-voiced Democrat known for his rumpled suits and working-class values, is seeking a return to the Senate after losing his reelection bid last year.
Standing up for workers. Treating everyone with dignity and respect. Working as hard as possible for the people of Ohio. Ive tried to live my life by those principles. But these days thats not whats happening in Washington, Brown said in announcement video shared Monday on X.
The announcement provided a jolt of good news to Democrats, who face a challenging map as they try to regain control of the Senate. Republicans head into the 2026 midterm elections holding 53 seats in the chamber. Just three races North Carolina, Georgia and Michigan are currently rated as Toss-ups by Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales. But two of those seats are currently held by Democrats. Even if Democrats win all three Toss-up races, it would only result in a net gain of one seat and still leave Republicans in charge.
But the picture for Democrats brightened considerably last month, after former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper jumped into the race for the Tar Heel States open seat. Browns candidacy represents another cause for Democratic optimism. Following the news that Brown was entering the race, Inside Elections shifted its rating from Solid Republican to Lean Republican.

(160,136 posts)like losing Bob Casey and Jon Tester too. With 45 not on the ballot in 2026 to bring out the MAGat vote, maybe we have a chance.

(3,247 posts)Brown lost by about 3-4 percent while Trump won by 11 percent....
Trump won't be on the ballot in 2026, and some of his own base is now disenchanted with him
(which wasn't the case in the 2018 midterms, where he suffered a blow-out in the House...)
I think Brown will "win re-election" in 2026
(a term I always despised and thought misused when being used about Trump's 2024 campaign, since he was not still in office---
can't be 're-elected' when you were already 'de-elected', I always thought before, but what the hell---)
RE-ELECT SENATOR SHERROD BROWN in 2026 !!!!!!!!

(2,896 posts)Moreno is the absolute worst Ohio has had for a senator in my lifetime. A grifter like Trump and a smarmy used car salesman to boot.
He only beat Brown last year because he carpet-bombed our airwaves and media with anti-trans ads blaming Brown for allowing trans girls to play high school sports, the MAGA GOPs latest culture war red herring.
Morenos office never answers calls. He doesnt do jack shit. Hes basically in DC to line his pockets and is a shitty-ass con man who probably should end up in a prison cell.
Brown honestly should have countered Morenos ads harder, and was slow to respond to a lot of this shit. He was also fighting headwinds and a demoralized base who didnt show up to vote for Harris in the numbers we needed to avert our current unfolding disaster.
Honestly, I wish Brown were going up against Moreno instead of Husted, because the ads against Moreno pretty much write themselves at this point. Husted wont be as much of a certainty, but hes also not an established MAGAt Republican. Im not sure he can pull off being one, or that an endorsement from Trump would do much for him.

(77,764 posts)say that I was real shocked when he lost to the Republican--I forget his name. I hope he gets the money support he will need from the Dem Party--AND loud media support.
