Report: ICE plans to build a 300-bed detention facility near McCook, Nebraska

The Trump administration reportedly plans to build a new immigrant detention facility in McCook, Nebraska, and house migrants in several county jails as part of an effort to expand capacity.

According to planning documents reviewed by the Washington Post, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to open a 300-bed facility near the Work Ethic Camp in Red Willow County by as early as next month.

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen is expected to announce plans for the facility Tuesday, according to several sources.

The proposed detention center is part of ICE's plan to open or expand 125 facilities this year, more than doubling its capacity from 41,000 to more than 107,000 beds across the country.
