South Carolina Republican. Rep. Nancy Mace cancelled a speech in her home state after only a small crowd decided to show up, according to a report.
Event organizers had urged people to RSVP in advance to hear Mace discuss protecting parental rights at an event hosted by far-right group Moms for Liberty in Horry County on Thursday, warning that seating is limited.
That didnt appear to be a problem. When the event kicked off, just eight people were in the room, My Horry News reported.
The gubernatorial candidate didnt take the stage to deliver remarks, but a member of Maces team emerged, chatted with the event organizer, and told reporters that Mace would take their questions and then meet with the attendees individually, the outlet reported.

By the way, what's up with the writing at The Independent? The article never says when this happened. Isn't "When" one of the Ws of basic journalism?

(159,484 posts)It apparently happened this past Thursday - https://www.myhorrynews.com/news/rep-nancy-mace-cancels-myrtle-beach-speech-amid-low-turnout/article_85ecc1a9-3050-4499-96bd-3766bb2f7107.html
I had seen a Huff Post article sometime Saturday but didn't see it prominently linked until after their version was past LBN's 12-hr publication date/time to get chance to use that - https://www.huffpost.com/entry/nancy-mace-cancels-speech-south-carolina-governor-race_n_68a91c8be4b0768c801ee98f

(6,118 posts)Is that how it works now?
How hard would it have been to write "cancelled a speech in her home state last Thursday after only a small crowd..."

(159,484 posts)although NONE of the "big 3" American broadcast networks even bothered reporting it, obviously because it was a negative against a Republican loon.

As opposed to afterward?

(109 posts)HIding out is worse. I went to an event in Providence, RI that was not well attended, but one of our US Senators was in the audience and he stayed for the whole thing. Sen. Gabe Amo. I was happy he was there.

(14,586 posts)It was the states only competitive district, and a Democrat won it in 2018, resulting in several thousand minority voters being moved to the adjacent district of Jim Clyburn, which was already solid Democrat. Maces district is now about 55-45 R, so it is pretty safe.
Mace is not popular in SC, and has several high-profile opponents in the primary. She is banking on Trumps endorsement as her only chance of breaking out of the pack.
At least the open SC Governors race will get her and Freedom Caucus lackey Ralph Norman out of Congress.

(10,530 posts)Lol. The idea of a Moms for Liberty chapter there is pretty funny. The hypocrisy is probably just as stunning as that Florida chapter that was in the news, when was that, last year?
