President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he may deploy federal troops to New Orleans next, not Chicago, and is waiting for governors to ask for help a shift in his rhetoric about moving into major U.S. cities uninvited.
We are making a determination now: Do we go to Chicago? Or do we go to a place like New Orleans where we have a great governor, Jeff Landry, who wants us to come in and straighten out a very nice section of this country that has become quite quite tough, quite bad? Trump said during an Oval Office meeting alongside Polands new president.
You have New Orleans, which has a crime problem. Well straighten that out in two weeks, easier than D.C., Trump said. That was a walk-back of his declaration just 24 hours earlier that were going in to Chicago, a city he has long maligned for violent crime but has a Democratic governor who opposes Trumps deployment of federal troops in his state.
While he again credited the federal troops for D.C.s drop in crime since their deployment last month, the presidents shifting plans for the next phase in his crackdown on urban crime marked a tacit acknowledgement of the legal challenges hell face going beyond his authority within the District of Columbia. He suggested hed be holding off on sending more federal troops into states where governors oppose such a move.

(17,854 posts)Oh, Republican mayor. Never mind.
And then there's this (as expected, it's the Democrats/Soros that are to blame):
Speaker Mike Johnson says Shreveport 'Democratic DA' is to blame for high crime
When asked about crime in Caddo Parish, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said the "Democratic DA" is not prosecuting as he should.
Johnson appeared on CNN News Central on Friday and addressed the possibility of bringing the National Guard to Shreveport and Caddo Parish after FBI crime statistics showed that the violent crimes per 100,000 residents in 2024 were higher in the city than in Washington, D.C.
Theres a lot of good work thats been done. There are a lot of reasons for that. But, we have a Democratic DA there who has not been prosecuting crime as some other more aggressive DAs have around the country, Johnson said. Billionaire George Soros funded that individual to be elected. But, Ill say that, you know, its an urban area that has a lot of problems that are happening around the country, and we have to address it.
