Vance says ACA credits fuel fraud as Democrats push for extension to end shutdown

Source: Reuters

October 12, 2025 11:15 AM EDT Updated 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Vice President JD Vance criticized Affordable Care Act tax credits on Sunday, labeling them vehicles for fraud and calling for regulatory reform, even as Democratic lawmakers seek to extend healthcare subsidies in the standoff over the government shutdown.

"The tax credits go to some people deservedly, and we think the tax credits actually go to a lot of waste and fraud within the insurance industry. So we want to make sure that the tax credits go to the people who need them," Vance told CBS News' "Face the Nation."

Vance's view contrasts with the stance of Senate Democrats who have used their legislative leverage for the past two weeks to withhold votes for a stopgap funding bill to reopen government.

Most Democrats in the upper chamber have held out to push for a range of healthcare fixes such as a possible extension of enhanced insurance tax credits that are set to expire at the end of the year.

No big surprise. I got nailed to the tune of almost $6,000 on my tax return because Florida Blue failed to update my income when I told them to. The government clawed back the ACA subsidy I was not entitled to but had been given. The only way to commit fraud would be to not file or not pay your taxes. If they want to find fraud ask Rick Scott. He know ALL about it.

Or he knows and is distorting the situation, because he thinks his "base" is too stupid to understand.

In an imperfect world you can still rely on Vance to be predictably pro-Nazi on any given day.

When I saw a story I am posting below, what struck me is how even I have thought a totally different version of these things..I was never a fan of internet mobs. I think allowing for genuine redemption is a big part of being a lefty. I don’t like meanness towards and mockery of an opponent (especially a defeated one in a bad position).

If I can be, I am very minimalist in conflict (as long as the stream of consciousness inside my head is not fracked out. And really even there, an attack of diarrhea is usually the worst I wish on anyone and that mainly the admins at my last job. They probably have chronic diarrhea anyway making it all kinda redundant).

I am of the opinion that an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. And as a whatever far left blah blah still, I still never like internet conflict bs etc for complicated lefty anti-violence etc reasons that aren’t easy to explain.

But where Vance and I differ is the context or people or messages it applies to. These are not randos. They are people who make serious public policy decisions. It reminds me of that judge in that Stanford rape case.

This is fucking awful:

These are not comics making ott jokes or the internet pile on stuff.

I thought a neo-nazi adjacent influencer calling him a “fat-ass with a biracial family” might knock some sense into Vance.
Nope.

This guy is a dick sure. But he is also a complete fucking idiot.
And he is a reliable compass at all times.
