Russian forces accidentally shot down one of their own military aircraft overnight while attempting to intercept Ukrainian drones over Crimea, Ukrainian officials said Friday. Ukrainian authorities say they are still gathering information about the incident.

Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, said the plane was shot down by Russian air defense missiles while defending against incoming Ukrainian drones.

“They were repelling Ukrainian attacks and ended up shooting down their own plane today,” Pletenchuk told Apostrof media during a live broadcast, RBC reported. “The fight continues, and all information [about the incident] is being collected in Crimea.”,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Whoever the trainer was for those AA batteries or drone swarms, I hope he's been actively assisting many others in reaching the same heights of Russian skill and precision.

As opposed to the staggering, overwhelming response to someone invading them. One would think they'd give up the fool's dream of expanding the already-largest nation on the planet.

9. Other than "fly over there and shoot that", Russia doesn't really have an air doctrine

Russia views airpower primarily as an extension of artillery and maneuver units. They have an overreliance on non-guided munitions and piss-poor battlefield integration. They had a golden opportunity to achieve air dominance in the first six weeks of their war but never practiced the integration of all command levels to pull it off. Their air force is about as quote-unquote dominant as their Black Sea fleet is.

Seems like it given the sheer incompetency of his invasion of Ukraine.
