Epstein had dinners with a top Florida prosecutor on his case, docs show

Source: Tampa Bay Times

Jeffrey Epstein had multiple appointments, phone calls and dinners with Matthew Menchel — the Miami U.S. Attorney’s office chief criminal prosecutor who spearheaded Epstein’s sweetheart deal in 2007, newly released documents show.

A tranche of over 8,500 pages of records from Epstein’s estate — released by the House Oversight Committee Friday — show that Epstein’s calendars and emails reflect that Menchel, who left the DOJ in 2007, had multiple meetings or dinners with Epstein in 2011, 2013 and 2017. Lawmakers also referred to a photograph of Menchel on a ski trip with Epstein sometime in the 2000s, but didn’t produce the photo.

Contacted on Friday, Menchel initially referred the Miami Herald to a 2020 statement he had previously sent the Herald in response to questions about whether he had a business relationship with Epstein.

“I had no business relationship with Mr. Epstein at any point, not before, during or after my tenure at the US Attorney’s Office.” He added that Epstein had tried to get his firm to handle some of the civil litigation associated with his case, but “we declined.”

These weren't slightly out of college men malingering at bars looking for drunk co-eds. These were older wealthy men abusing and raping underage girls.

His father, headmaster Donald Barr, likely hired the college-drop-out Epstein to teach at Manhattan's exclusive Dalton School. Epstein enjoyed exclusive access to many of the children of the city's social and business elite. Reports exist Don was OSS (Office of Strategic Services) the CIA-precursor organization formed to fight NAZIs during World War 2. Sad part is, the NAZIs infiltrated the organization post-war. Sadder still, the KGB infiltrated the NAZIs during the war.

From NYT:

Jeffrey Epstein Taught at Dalton. His Behavior Was Noticed.

Some students at the esteemed Manhattan prep school recall that Mr. Epstein, now charged with sex trafficking, was willing to violate norms in his encounters with girls.

By Mike Baker and Amy Julia Harris
The New York Times, July 12, 2019

Excerpt...

The school, which had been a progressive haven for the children of artists and writers, was undergoing a shift under a new headmaster. Donald Barr, the father of Attorney General William Barr, came in as a disciplinarian focused on beefing up the academics of the school, and on enforcing a strict code of conduct.

In a school known for creativity, administrators had prohibited denim jeans and “bizarre and eccentric costumes.” If Mr. Barr caught students using marijuana, he would often send them to therapy as a condition of staying in the school. He himself described his leadership style as “by ukase,” using the Imperial Russian term for an edict from the czar.

Staff members would sometimes turn students away from their morning classes; girls for skirts that were too short, and boys for hair that was too long.

Some students and parents balked at the constraints. Still, the school continued to draw families of fame. Around the years of Mr. Epstein’s tenure, records show the student roster included Prudence Murdoch, the daughter of the media mogul Rupert Murdoch; the fashion designer Jill Stuart; and several future actresses, including Jennifer Grey, Tracy Pollan and Maggie Wheeler.

While Mr. Barr was strict on the school culture, he made it a point to hire teachers from unconventional backgrounds, recalled Susan Semel, a social studies teacher at Dalton from the 1960s to 1980s who later wrote a book on the history of the school.

More importantly, Menchal met with Epstein's lawyer to work out the deal. His future meetings with Epstein are important, of course. It will be interesting to see if his bank account swelled after he left the DOJ, and then met with Jeffrey.

Pardon my WikiPedia, Esteemed Sir:

... J. Edgar Hoover. Because Hoover knew the pictures (of him engaged sexually with FBI #2 Clyde Tolson) existed, Cohn told Bonanno, Hoover feared being blackmailed. Other organized crime figures have supported that claim (as well as CIA Counter-Espionage Chief James Jesus Angleton)...

The Rosenberg trial brought the 24-year-old Cohn to the attention of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director J. Edgar Hoover. With support from Hoover and Cardinal Spellman, Hearst columnist George Sokolsky convinced Joseph McCarthy to hire Cohn as his chief counsel, choosing him over Robert F. Kennedy.[29][30] Cohn assisted McCarthy with his work for the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, becoming known for his aggressive questioning of suspected Communists. Cohn preferred not to hold hearings in open forums, which went well with McCarthy's preference for holding "executive sessions" and "off-the-record" sessions away from the Capitol to minimize public scrutiny and to question witnesses with relative impunity.[31] Cohn was given free rein in pursuit of many investigations, with McCarthy joining in only for the more publicized sessions.[32]

I'd prefer not to think of J Edgar, Clyde, and Cohn having a swollen time.

One of my favorite readings as a youth were description of Robert Kennedy, Sr. wanting to beat the shit out of Roy. I rank that the great "what might have been" chapters of history. It may have been greater than when Iron Mike, in his mega-cocaine phase, slapping Don King, resulting in the felon considering buying Tyson's contract from King. Sad neither happened. But I'd settle for seeing Stephen Miller spar my son.

Strange days we find ourselves in, my Good Friend.

So, what "kind" of relationship did you have? Hmmm? Were those arranged through Ghislaine?
