Fears Gaza 'temporary' ceasefire line could become permanent new border

"A supposedly temporary yellow line marking Gazas ceasefire is taking an increasingly physical form as the precarious truce shows signs of stalling, with potentially dramatic consequences for Palestines future.
... Israel insisted on Sunday that it would maintain control of security in Gaza. The prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, told ministers it would decide for itself where and when to strike its foes and which countries would be allowed to send troops to police the truce.
... Under the terms of the US-brokered ceasefire, which came into effect on 10 October, the IDF withdrawal to the yellow line would leave it occupying 53% of the Gaza Strip, but a BBC satellite analysis of the new yellow markers suggested they had been placed several hundred metres beyond the proposed line, representing a further substantial land grab..."

It was a land grab from the beginning, even if it took a genocide and ethnic cleansing to get it done.
And if that's not disgusting to anyone here, we are on different moral planets.

But the exclusion of Turkey from the stabilisation force would be controversial since it is one of the guarantors of the Trump 20-point ceasefire agreement, and is seen as one of the most capable Muslim armed forces.
The force is still likely to be led by Egypt.
Other contributors to the stabilisation force, such as Indonesia and the Emiratis, would still prefer the force to be given a UN security council mandate, even if it is not itself a UN peacekeeping force.
Instead it will coordinate with a US-led military cell, known as the Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC), based in the southern Israeli town of Kiryat Gat. The cell, which includes a small number of British, French, Jordanian and Emirati advisers was inaugurated on Tuesday by the US vice-president, JD Vance. The CMCC also appears to be taking on an aid coordination role in Gaza, although key aid crossings remain closed..."

"TAMPA, Fla. The U.S. Central Command opened a Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in Israel, Oct. 17, marking the formal establishment of a main coordination hub for Gaza assistance five days after world leaders signed a U.S.-brokered plan to permanently end the war between Israel and Hamas.
The CMCC is designed to support stabilization efforts. U.S. military personnel will not deploy into Gaza but will instead help facilitate the flow of humanitarian, logistical, and security assistance from international counterparts into Gaza.
Bringing together stakeholders who share the goal of successful stabilization in Gaza is essential for a peaceful transition, said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Over the next two weeks, U.S. personnel will integrate representatives from partner nations, non-governmental organizations, international institutions, and the private sector as they arrive to the coordination center.
The CMCC will also monitor implementation of the ceasefire agreement, featuring an operations floor that allows staff to assess real-time developments in Gaza. Additionally, office and meeting spaces are set up to foster collaborative planning among leaders, representatives, and staff..."

(3,910 posts)Of course Israel's definition of a ceasefire is to kill "only" 20 Palestinians a day, but I digress. So Israel can reject the participation of a NATO member with a large, ready army, and a nation whose leader Trump recently praised as a "reliable ally"? I guess we know who is REALLY running this farce of a "peace plan", don't we?
