Air traffic control staffing problems spiked over the weekend, raising concerns about growing disruption

Air traffic controller staffing shortages worsened over the weekend as the nation's government shutdown hit its fourth week, leading to delays and anxiety, and experts say it won't get better until air traffic controllers get paid.

More than 50 staffing shortages have been reported since Friday morning, causing delays from Los Angeles to Washington, DC, according to an operations update. Controllers are considered essential workers, so they must work during the shutdown, but are not being paid.

Flights for Los Angeles International Airport were temporarily halted Sunday because of a staffing shortage at the Southern California TRACON, which handles flights arriving or departing. At Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, staffing issues caused a ground delay Sunday that was expected to last until midnight.

Since October 1, there have been at least 264 instances of staffing problems reported at FAA facilities. That's more than four times the 60 that reported problems on the same dates last year. ... Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Sunday controllers are "wearing thin" and calling in sick as they continue to go without pay for what is difficult, complex work.

If the Air Traffic controllers walk off the job nationally, the Airline Industry comes to a halt. He cannot fire them all!

Do not the pilots for Air Force 1 need air traffic controllers to know where if is when in the air?

Avionics are a funny thing, being that my late husband flew single engine air planes for many years and Air traffic controllers were vital to making sure we were on course, were alerted if traffic was in the area, keeping the skies clear, even when he would file an Instrument flight plan, knowing when cleared to land, etc. He was IFR certified.

There would be Control Towers and military trained controllers to make sure that flights taking off were safe to do so.

Bases with Fighter Wings were the same be that at Travis, Elmendorf, Lackland, Minot, Kirtland, Nellis, Offut, etc. We have stayed at many in the country. So that the Civilian and Military air traffic controllers are interlocked, does not surprise me.

Because who wouldn’t want a controller working flights when they are sick or fatigued?

Trump and the Regime do not want people leaving/fleeing the country when he starts a war with Venezuela. Watch how he will attempt to close state borders to keep people from fleeing red states.

Hard to remember but his term started with a bunch of airplane disasters that he then blamed on Biden.
