(Bloomberg) -- The US Transportation Department is cutting 13 current or planned routes by Mexican carriers into the US, in response to the countrys alleged noncompliance with a 2015 air transport agreement, Secretary Sean Duffy announced late Tuesday.
A new order from the US government cancels all combination service in which carriers transport both passengers and cargo between the US and Felipe Ángeles International Airport in Mexico. The order also freezes any expansion of such services by Mexican carriers between the US and Benito Juárez International Airport, according to a news release from the department.
The US government also said that its proposing a ban on Mexican passenger airlines transporting belly cargo between Benito Juárez International Airport and the US.
The moves are an escalation following other US actions in July, including requiring Mexican airlines to file schedules with US authorities and seek approval for large charter flights. The Trump administration also revoked antitrust immunity for an agreement between Delta Air Lines Inc. and Grupo Aeromexico last month a decision the carriers are currently appealing.
