It's a technology whose time has come, I don't think Big Oil can stop it now, but Trump nis certainly trying for them. I think these layoffs are GM just responding to a worse economy and blaming it on EVs.

(316 posts)...few can afford right now, EV or not. Wages haven't kept pace with vehicle (and other) prices for a long time. This is inevitable. The party is coming to a close, and as the Boomer cash dries up, the next generations won't have the lifetime earnings or employment stability to take up the slack. Bright side - fire sales on leased luxury compact SUVs should be coming at some point.

(1,780 posts)because of the Republican efforts to
dis-encentifize EV purchases as a favor to the oil industry, GM has laid off 1200 workers in advance of weakened demand following the Felon's first year in office.

(23,533 posts)I think GM is just looking to make cuts because overall, business is looking cloudy, and they figure that Trump is going to target EVs somehow, so this is where they're cutting now, but these cuts will be broader in the very near future.
It's not like perspective EV buyers who aren't now interested are going to go by a brand new ICE vehicle now, they're just going to wait.
