The Trump administration on Monday plans to unveil a long-awaited farm aid package, according to a White House official, offering $12 billion in assistance to a key base of support hit hard by low crop prices and the impact of the presidents tariff policies.
The aid will include up to $11 billion in one-time payments to crop farmers under the Department of Agricultures newly designed Farmer Bridge Assistance program, while the remaining is reserved for crops not covered under the FBA, according to the official, who asked not to be identified as the information isnt public.
The aid comes amid rising frustration among farmers on the slow pace of Chinese purchases, which Beijing clamped down on earlier this year in retaliation for Trumps escalating tariff barrage.
President Donald Trump plans to announce the package around 2 p.m. in Washington during an event with corn, cotton, sorghum, soybean, rice, cattle, wheat and potato farmers, alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, according to the official.

No paywall (gift)
Should be a hard NO unless the ACA extension is included on some bill.

(7,017 posts)The myth of the hardworking farmer is just that, a myth. Farmers have twice voted in large numbers for Trump, who pledged in each campaign to slap tariffs on China that would reduce their exports and to pay them back with government handouts. It's time we understood that this is not a negative side effect of what they voted for, but precisely what they wanted: to work less, to be in the market less, to have the government hand them checks. They're lazy.

(6,248 posts)and his announced aid will turn into another tool to line his personal portfolio with tax dollars meant to assist the nation. I doubt the farmer's will see anything tangible other than a 12 Million Ways to Prepare Soybean cookbook signed by trump.

(511 posts)He cant dole out money on his command. That is the job of Congress and there wont be enough votes left to get it through once the projected Repub exodus begins on January 1st. And nothing at all will happen until the SCOTUS rules on whether the convicted felon had the power to assess tariffs in the first place.
Makes good theatre though for those now very poor farmers dying along with their withered crops.
