Ukraine Has Evidence Of Russian Effort To Pull Belarus Into War, Zelensky Says

President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday, May 15, that Ukrainian intelligence has evidence Russia is attempting to draw Belarus more directly into the war against Ukraine and possibly into future operations against NATO countries.

Following a meeting with Ukraine’s military and intelligence leadership, Zelensky said Kyiv had identified additional contacts between Russian officials and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko aimed at persuading Minsk to join new Russian military operations.

“We continue recording Russian attempts to pull Belarus deeper into the war against Ukraine,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

Zelensky said Russia is considering operational plans launched from Belarusian territory either toward Ukraine’s Chernihiv-Kyiv sectors or against a NATO member state.

1. Heard it was launched by Russia to break up Latvian gov't.

“Ukrainian drone crashed in Latvia early Wednesday after entering from Russian airspace, while several others reportedly strayed into Estonia on a route toward Russia’s Ust-Luga port, officials said.

Latvian armed forces said the drone that fell in the country’s southeast was flying at less than a kilometer altitude, which kept it “invisible” to primary radar systems.

The drone was equipped with an explosive warhead, which detonated upon impact near the village of Dobrochina in Kraslava municipality, about 12–15 kilometers from the Belarus border.”
