Hospice workers at Allina Health in Minnesota are striking for one day in response to what they call unfair working conditions.
The SEIU-Healthcare Minnesota & Iowa is the union representing the nurses, who say that year-long negotiations with the health system have stalled. The 65 striking employees say they are fighting for interim pay raises and better work-life balance.
We dont feel valued and we dont feel heard for months, Susie Smurs, a hospice nurse and member of the unions bargaining team, told local news. We have asked Allina to bargain a contract that supports work-life balance, respects our profession, and gives us the time and resources to provide the exceptional end of life care our patients deserve.
The strike is expected to last one day. The striking employees contend that hospice nurses were the only Allina employees who were denied annual wage increases this spring after also missing out on wage hikes last summer.
