Mitch McConnell using a wheelchair after falling down stairs at the Capitol

(NBC News) WASHINGTON — Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is "fine," his office said Wednesday after he was seen using a wheelchair following a fall at the Capitol.

“Senator McConnell is fine. The lingering effects of polio in his left leg will not disrupt his regular schedule of work," a McConnell spokesman said in a statement. McConnell, 82, had polio as a child.

The spokesman added that McConnell is using a wheelchair “purely as a precautionary measure.”

Reporters saw McConnell fall down while he was walking down a small set of stairs leaving the Senate chamber on his way to a Republican caucus lunch.

I feel a little bit for his physical troubles. My sweet dad had polio as a child and if it wasn’t for my grandmother, it’s doubtful he would have ever walked again. She was relentless in working his legs and doing whatever necessary to help him. She had already lost a young son and wasn’t about to let harm come to another if she could help it. As a result of the polio my dad had a limp when he walked. He passed away when he was 59 so I don’t know how it would have affected him in his 70s-80s. He was always strong until he became ill. That’s why I will give a teeny tiny bit of grace to ol’ Mitch for the polio.

Responsibility for the shape that the US is in today. He’s not a good man or a good person by any means.
