Ken Griffin: Trumps tariffs and rhetoric are huge mistake
Citadel founder fears chaos of presidents actions could damage economy
The business community hasnt had many outspoken critics of Donald Trump early in his second term, but when Ken Griffin speaks, people listen.
The Citadel founder and chief executive officer voiced frustration over the presidents tariff policies during an appearance at a UBS conference in Miami on Tuesday, Yahoo Finance reported. Griffin has said he voted for Trump in November, but didnt donate to his campaign.
From my vantage point, the bombastic rhetoric, the damage has already been done, and its a huge mistake to resort to this form of rhetoric when youre trying to drive a bargain, because it like imprints, it sears into the minds of CEOs, policymakers, Griffin said at the conference.
He added that the uncertainty and chaos created by the tariff dynamics between us and our allies is an impediment to growth, bemoaning how multinationals wont know how to plan for the coming years amid the upheaval.

(7,717 posts)He talks about that as an impediment to growth. Well, yeah, but then the destruction of nearly all Federal Agencies, with resultant unemployment and chaos in nearly all areas of the economy is going to be just as bad, if not worse.
The Federal Government is the biggest national employer, and government spending supports 10's of thousands of non-government companies and millions of jobs. As these companies collapse, so does our economy, as the domino effect spreads to all sectors of the economy.
We'll see inflation and a shrinking economy as the availability of goods goes down and prices rise.
Right now the Trump government is pushing us into a massive recession; possible depression. It may take a decade to fix what he is breaking.
But in the meantime, the rich get richer.
