Economists are starting to worry about a serious Trump recession

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/economists-are-starting-to-worry-about-a-serious-trump-recession/ar-AA1zLpTi

Donald Trump’s assault on the US federal government and the world’s interlinked manufacturing system have together reached an economic tipping point.

“It seems almost unavoidable that we are headed for a deep, deep recession,” said Jesse Rothstein, Berkeley professor and former chief economist at the US labour department.

Once the pace of job losses crosses a critical line, the multiplier effects can snowball suddenly.

Prof Rothstein said monthly non-farm payrolls – the barometer of US economic health watched closely by markets – could turn viciously negative by late spring, contracting at rates surpassed only during the worst months of Covid and the Lehman crisis in 2008.

“I think we’re going to see historically large drops. Losses of 400,000 a month are not implausible because people are getting nervous out there.

The economists the headline refers to are damn idiots if they are only "starting" to worry about a Trump recession now.
Somehow, I suspect it is more likely that it is the headline writers (or their bosses' bosses) that are idiots and not the economists.

8. what Oligarchs want

This is what Putin wants, of course. But it is also what ultra-wealthy oligarchs want too. If stocks tank in value, guess who buys them up at reduced rates and then waits for a rebound? The ultra-wealthy make out best when everyone else loses....so they are licking their chops thinking about the economy crashing. The same with farmland.....if farmers lose enough money, their land will become devalued and the oligarchs will buy it up for next to nothing. The same with non-insurable land along the gulf coast. This is a feature, not a bug.....oligarchs love a failing economy.

Maybe not the oldest trick in the book but it’s a tactic that has been used before

Not going to check, but I do wonder how many of these economists are in the MAGA camp versus the I told you so camp.
