Is Pope Francis in Heaven?
Many Christian Nationalists say NO.
Pope Francis has died, sparking grief (progressive and centrist Catholics), jubilation (conservative Catholics), a meltdown of streams for the film Conclave, and a secret Signal chat where a certain vice president might claim God killed the pope for owning him after their meeting.
Im not Catholic. I was indoctrinated to detest Catholicism, to be suspicious of all Catholics, to openly tell them their faith was wrong.
I grew up in a Protestant Christian Nationalist church whose pastor regularly preached sermons about how all Catholics, including the pope, were going to hell. Numerous Protestant Christian Nationalist churches will likely commemorate Francis death by offering similar messages from their pulpits this Wednesday evening or Sunday morning.
While I try not to comment on what happens to other souls in the hereafter, I admired Francis. I didnt agree with everything he proclaimed, but I saw his elevation to pope as a step toward a more inclusive church. Im sad to see him depart this role and hope the church selects another more progressive cardinal to fill his robes. May he rest in peace.

(18,071 posts)The Pope is likely not in heaven just yet. It is expected he would fly coach and standby. It might take him a few extra days to get upstairs.
Not the type of person to push his way to the front of the line,... then insist to fly first class as expected trDUMP + Vance would.

(31,851 posts)that all Catholics went to hell, too. I was saddened by this when I was small, because I had a lot of friends who were Catholic.
I was raised Missouri Synod Lutheran. They stopped saying that. When I was a seventh grader and in confirmation classes, I asked the pastor if that was true. He told me very gently that it was not. Maybe some of them would have a harder time getting into heaven, but that was all. I don't remember why he said that.
The pastor was Senator Paul Simon's father.

(24,242 posts)reincarnation (the parable of the prodigal son and the legion of demons), but at some point you don't have to. The Dalai lama has said he's not going to. The pope had a very good soul. That said, it would be his nature to want to incarnate again where he could do the most good.
