Democrats rebel after 8 senators cut a deal to end the shutdown without ACA funds

(NBC News) WASHINGTON — Many Democrats are fuming after a breakaway group of eight senators teamed up with Republicans to strike a deal to reopen the government without extending health care subsidies, backing off on the demand that led to the shutdown.

The agreement, which cleared a key procedural hurdle late Sunday by a vote of 60-40, sparked heavy criticism from congressional candidates, progressive activists and Democratic lawmakers. That includes some members with higher ambitions, who said it shows party leaders are not up to the task of marshaling effective opposition to President Donald Trump.

“This is a defining moment for the party. We need new faces with bold new ideas,” Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who is considering a presidential run, told NBC News. “The American people are tired of a failed status quo.”

they got a rock solid promise that maybe, possibly the Cons might consider thinking about developing a plan to potentially evaluate the timeline for deciding whether to hold a vote, if Trump lets them. You can take that to the bank!!!! (Heavy sarcasm, of course). I am forced to conclude that these folks (and Shaheen says Schumer knew exactly where this was going all along, even though he voted no on the vote) are either the biggest naive idiots or simply more interested in pleasing their corporate masters then serving the public. Take your pick. Either way, we're screwed.

In the meantime all of us who are working are paying federal TAXES.

But I'm not getting a fucking thing for those taxes I pay. At this point I think Congress is corrupt to the point where even the intitutional Dems really don't much care about what we all want.

And I'm so FUCKING tired of it I could spit nails.

We are being taxed without representation, because these people certainly did NOT do what 98% of us wanted.

First thing: GET RID OF SCHUMER. He knew all along this would turn out like it did regardless of what he says. You know how I know? The eight Ds that voted to end the shutdown are ALL RETIRING or not running for office. What the blue FUCK???????????????????????

I'm pretty sick of it, like I say, because when O entered the WH in 2009, we HAD THE SAME KIND OF MAJORITY. Why the hell do I not have universal healthcare?????????????? Oh, that's right. The healthcare lobby and big pharma. Those reptilian greed-heads kept that off the table when EVERYBODY knew it was the right thing to do, the moral thing to do. WHEN are we going to get people in Congress that actually give a shit about something besides Wall Street PROFITS????????????????

Seriously I have fucking $10K in health care debt, my Social Security is in danger as is Medicare, I'm still working and my health 'care' insurance not only increased its level of confusion, but also the 'coinsurance' and 'copays' and deductibles AND the premiums went UP by 19.2%.

Fuck.

Preferably by close of business today. I am sick to death of repeated trump victories---he's in the process of handing the country back to Democrats, with his non-stop hatred and ineptitude, and we're not anywhere close to taking full advantage of it. Get busy, Democratic leadership---or get the fuck out of the way.

You can't tell us out of one side of your mouth that Trump is the greatest threat to American democracy in history, and then back down on the one thing you claimed was the most important issue of the shutdown.

No support from me here.

It is time to change the whole leadership structure of the party. I encourage my fellow Illinoisans to put pressure on Durbin to get him to resign now, rather than drag out his remaining time. He did an awful lot in his time, but if he's not going to show any spine now, he needs to take his bow and get off the stage and out of the theater.

And let's push Schumer out of the way if we can. He needs to go. Go go go. Let Governor Hochul appoint AOC to his senate seat.

We've got solid replacements for the current weaklings, now. Major changes are called for---while we still have a country to save. Like I keep saying: trump is essentially handing the nation back to us, with his overwhelming criminality and ineptitude. We're just not taking full advantage of it...

fine during normal times. But these are not normal times, this is a 5 alarm fire threatening to destroy our democracy. Right now we desperately need a Winston Churchill, not a Neville Chamberlain. And Sunday proves Chamberlain is what we got.
