Most Americans now believe Republicans, rather than Democrats, won the government shutdown fight, according to a new poll published Nov. 15.

The CBS News and YouGov poll, conducted between Nov. 13 and 14, found that 55% of Americans believe President Donald Trump and Republicans got more of what they wanted from negotiations that ended the shutdown. Only 6% said Democrats came out on top, and 24% said neither party was victorious.

The results come weeks after Democrats cited their victories in the 2025 elections as a referendum on Trump and Republican leadership. The survey also stands in stark contrast with polls taken amid the shutdown that showed Republicans shouldering the brunt of voter criticism.

About 70% of Republicans believe their party compromised the “right amount” during negotiations, while 55% of Democrats said their party gave in too much, according to the CBS News survey.

More Americans disapprove of the way Democrats handled the shutdown (60%), compared to Republicans (54%). A majority of those polled (56%) said they disapproved of the way Trump led through the funding fight. ...............................

CBS paid for it, maybe determined how the questions were phrased.

Still not good when Dems have 60% disapproval from their own party members.

Some are objective, others not so much. Don’t remember that one, though. I would agree that Dems need to do some cleanup.

If the sponsor wants questions phrased or focused a certain way, even high quality methodology won’t completely counter that bias.

Republicans starved childrens as pawns in a power game and gave them the privilege of reapplying for food stamps.

Democrats didn't help in the aftermath spin, but all republicans accomplished in reality was further demonstrate how evil they are.
