When will the Epstein files be released now that the Senate agreed to make them public?

(BBC) The US Congress has approved a measure to compel the US Justice Department to release all files pertaining to its investigation into convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The bipartisan bill, which calls for the release of the files "in a searchable and downloadable format" within 30 days, passed the House of Representatives on Tuesday and the Senate agreed to pass it upon arrival.

It next needs the sign-off of President Donald Trump. The president urged Republicans in Congress on Monday to vote for the release - reversing course after his administration declined to make them public.

He had faced pushback from Epstein victims and a potential revolt from Republicans who would would vote to force the files' release.

When both Houses of Congress pass a bill, it is sent to the president. He has three options.

1. Sign the bill into law and then release the files.
2. Veto the bill and it didn’t become law so no release. Congress could then override the veto with a vote of 2/3rds majority in both chambers.
3. Pocket veto where the president doesn’t sign it or reject it. After ten days it would become law without his signature and the files would be released.

I think he’ll veto iit hoping that Congress won’t have the votes.

(All this is in the Constitution )

If the president takes no action in 10 days, the bill becomes law without his signature. A pocket veto only occurs if congress adjourns within that 10 day window and the president avoids signing or vetoing the bill.

I think he’ll take no action on the congressional bill, preferring to prevent release of the files by way of the sham “investigation” of Democrats supposedly fingered in the files.
