After Chad retired, Jeremy started performing with Peter Asher and I saw one of their shows in 2018. That was one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen.

He played almost note for note, plus a shit ton of other things I was familiar with, so it was pretty cool.
Meanwhile, my brother was allowed to hitchhike cross country after his junior year and saw all the great bandsjumped the stage in Boulder to kiss Janis, saw the Doors, the Mothers, Country Joe, and others in SF, and finally came home after hed been taken in by the Hells Angels and a biker chick insisted she pierce his ear with a knitting needle with an infection ensuing and he called for help getting home in a hurry. The news broke about the Manson murders just a couple weeks after he got homeand yes, he dodged a bullet there as hed somehow wound up on the periphery. The Big Bam was a Montgomery radio station that played top 40 hits and sponsored frequent concerts featuring top 40 artists. It was the height of The British Invasion and there were several British performers featured. The highlight was The Dave Clark Five. I remember a British duo, either Peter and Gordon or Chad and Jeremy, I forget which. I think there was also a female star, might have been Marianne Faithful or somebody like that. Can't remember who else was there. It was, after all, almost 60 years ago.

They were sealed in the temple, too. She had converted just so they could do that. And the church totally supported her and the divorce. Gave her food, she and her two sons got a full-on Christmas, with decorations, a tree, presents, and all the food fixin's. They paid her utilities a few times.
She became a sheriff 's deputy and worked in the Leon county courthouse. They helped her and her kids all the way through her training. Never once did they try to reconcile the family or tell her to go back and try again with counseling. They really walked the walk with her.

HoosierDebbie
(435 posts)5th Dimension at Ball State in 1972 or '73. I was still in high school.
The most incredible concert I ever went to was the "1st Ohio River Festival". University of Cincinnati, August 3, 1975. Nippert Stadium. Tickets were $9.00.
Bands included Aerosmith, Black Oak Arkansas, Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult, REO Speedwagon, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Styx. I got these band names from a poster, not from memory, though I do remember some more than others.
If you read the article I found about it, you will learn why there was never a second Ohio River Festival. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to put in a link to the page. My parents never learned that I went - especially since I went with 3 or 4 friends who were guys. My parents were out of town and my brothers didn't tell them.
I remember some of the stuff reported in the article, but nothing about violence. There was a fence that was torn down, and some people got in that way. I saw that, but none of the "security people's " over-the-top actions. There were people vomiting all over the place. Drugs were being sold out in the open as if they were hot dogs, with the sellers calling the name of their wares to people walking by. One of my friends and I ended up watching the whole event from the outside, where the fence was knocked down. Behind, but to the right of the stage. We could see everything on the stages from pretty close. And, we sat in the shadow of giant air conditioning units for a very close school building that threw out cooling mist, making it probably the most comfortable place in the whole area.
That was probably the closest I ever got to feeling like a hippie. I'm pretty sure that none of my nieces and nephews know that I was that "cool", or at least thought I was.

Also on the stage that night were Paul Revere & the Raiders, and since I was a huge fan of them, they were actually why I was there. I was in the 3rd row and it was all a glorious experience!
Later that summer, I saw The Monkees with Jimi Hendrix opening for them. That was pretty mind-blowing amazing, too!
Figarosmom

Silver Gaia
(5,129 posts)was because Herman's Hermits, The Monkees, and Paul Revere & the Raiders really were the headliners. They were all well-known with numerous #1 hits. But The Who and Jimi Hendrix were newcomers. It was 1967, and we were teenyboppers. We had no idea who these new musicians were! I can guarantee we remembered them, though. And of course that was the point.

(22,693 posts)Oh, boy, Rock Concert going was one of my luckiest event going things!...
So in Summer 1965 my mom chaparoned me, my younger sis, and one on our cousins to my sis, and mine's first show in Central Park's then Rheingold Music Festival with above forementioned bands.
What fun!
Later that summer I saw The Beatles at Shea Stadium.
I've seen close to 275 bands/performers, and around 230+ shows till around ?2011.
A few since then.
This is an approximation because I lost the adorable minature 3 ring loose leaf binder where I wrote all shows/performers down around 2012.
I've seen some of the people listed here, too.
Figarosmom
(7,268 posts)Would have been close to your count if I count the multi times I've seen some, like have seen Tom Petty almost every year of his touring until he died. He was like my Grateful dead. There was a group of us (like in Friends i guess) we all were together during the 70s recession. We didn't live together but we saw each other every day, ate together and went to concerts, bars and movies together. So we did go to a lot of concerts
Eric Burden and the Animals was the first album I ever bought. played the hell out of it.
electric_blue68
(22,693 posts)I had about 58 shows by 2011 involving 4 bands seen between 12 -16 xs.
And around 22 between bands I saw 3 - 5 times. 58 + 22 = 80.
So that was about 275 - 80 = 195 that saw either twice or once.

(7,268 posts)I saw them in Chicago, Woks tour with orchestra and all. Last show they did with orchestra and choir for that tour. They said there were 80'000 people. That's more people then population uf the city I live.

(18,193 posts)Friend of mine and I snuck in without paying. Very intimate venue, though. Young girl down in front kept begging Joni to do "Conversation," so at one point she stopped, explained that she didn't really remember that song because she wrote it so long ago, and "I was so much older then," (to which somebody -- I won't say whom -- in the peanut gallery shouted "Right on, Sister!" ). Then she said she'd do it if the girl would get on stage with her and sing it with her.
Great moment, I doubt things like that would happen often in concerts today.

Wasn't $3 expensive in those days? That had to be an experience at the iconic Cotton Club to see an iconic man. Was the anyone else with Kim like Ella Fitzgerald singing? So you're 110 or so years old?

(11,204 posts)wonderful and the neighbors would gather around to listen. Yes the tickets were expensive to see live performers, but I did have the pleasure of hearing Elle Fitzgerald. That was at the Apollo in Harlem in the mid 30s. What a voice!
